Walk the Botanical Gardens. The 55 acres was amazing. Make sure you get to the fragrance plants area before you leave.
Beautiful rock formations and lots of hiking trails. Driving through and site seeing can take 2 hours tops, hiking/climbing can be an all day event. Be sure to see Balanced Rock!
It's amazingly beautiful at sunset and what's so great about this park is there's a beach shoreline, quite a few jetties and nature trails. It's a triple whammy for outdoor enthusiasts!
Pack a lunch, set up a picnic and watch the world go by. All year round, Georgetown's beautiful waterfront is a centre of neighbourhood entertainment so there's always something to watch.

One of my favorite Des Moines recreational places, Gray's Lake is wonderful for walks, bird watching, and boating. When my children were young, we spent a lot of time at the beach!

This is a great place for a walk or run. City owned an well maintained. Park has lakes with nature trails, paved running an walking track around lower Lake and gravel trail as well.
Even when there are no events going on, it's a beautiful place to take a walk. It's also fun watching people surf Brennan's wave.
Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash! Just remember to always pick up after your four-legged friend.
Mt Flume & Mt Liberty are not for beginners - newbies to hiking, take the Liberty Spring Trail and avoid Mt Flume unless you're prepared to summit both mountains. The views are worth it though.
It can get absurdly cold and windy up here. Make sure you dress warm and enjoy the 2.7 mile tram to the top. It is truly an amazing experience.

Stunning urban park -- one of the best in the world. Very accessible, and the best nature and views you can get without hiking through the woods.

It's so large that it's usually empty so bring a blanket and spread out. I love to bring coloring books and a lemonade. You're also bound to meet quite a few dogs as they're off leash.
