I'd come here 4 a creative writing class. It was a hard time, I thought I'd never have a record & needed inspiration. It opened my mind & let me think in a new way, helping me create Songs In A Minor.
Cool spot for soul food in New York! Mmmmmm! I used to go here a lot! Definitely on my list of things to do when in the city.
I'll never forget my 6 floor walk up Harlem apartment! It marked the start of my career, where I recorded "I Wont" & "Typewriter." 2 unreleased songs on Songs In A Minor Deluxe & Collectors editions.
This is my favorite window to stare through. I'd spend hours admiring the pianos, dreaming of the day I'd be able to buy one. I'd go in to smell it, I didn't dare play one, in case they'd kick me out!
One of the few nice things about growing up in Hell's Kitchen is hanging out at the pier. The view of the Hudson review at sunset is so peaceful and absolutely breathtaking. The water always calms me.
This was a quiet spot that I'd go to to think when I was writing Songs in A Minor. It was my respite in a jungle.
Mom didn't have much, but she always gave me what I needed. I respect & appreciate her for that! Dance lessons were a world of discovery & discipline. I took Ballet, Dunham & tap here. Not bad huh?;-)
