I've traveled a lot over the past year, and I have to say Birmingham is one of the friendlier airports I have to go through. The renovations have been a huge plus.

Scot Raymond HanleySeptember 8, 2013The airport has been renovated. Any tips prior to 2013 are no longer valid. That being said, local fare includes Jim and Nicks BBQ. If you have time, try their Pork plate for a taste of southern BBQ.

The downstairs Starbucks is open until 11pm. Pre-Security. Of course, you can't take food or drink through the TSA checkpoint.
Unlike most big city airports- you really DO need to use a quart sized bag for your 3-1-1 liquids. They are REALLY nice if you "forget." So be nice back:)
The renovations are beautiful! Birmingham is really stepping it up. Make sure to stop by Jim N Nicks if you have time to eat! The catfish is the best!

Since the remodel, it's a pleasure to fly into Birmingham. Make sure to hit up Good People Brewing in concourse A.
Fellow native Birminghamians, let your voice be heard. I can live with having such limited direct flights, but we shouldn't have to pay the same as ports that offer a sufficient # of DF's!! Chaps me!

For the first day of operations the new bhm is very nice. Lots more choices than 5BUCKS for coffee. And better food selections.

Most of these tips are outdated with the new concourse. Plenty to eat inside. Enjoy the free wifi and plentiful outlets.
