This, the original branch of Cafe Grumpy, is a favorite spot of ours for good coffee and getting work done. Lots of tables, a smattering of plugs, and sometimes overwhelmed wifi. Top notch baked goods Read more

Great local coffee spot. The coffee baristas are chipper and nice despite the Grumpy title. The coffee is one of the best tasting coffee in NYC. Totally worth it.

Great, flavorful coffee roasted on premises. Large, communal tables in the back, quiet, library-like atmosphere makes it ideal for bringing a laptop and getting some work done.
  • Project Latte: a NYC cafe culture guide
One of our favorite overall cafe/roasting operations in NYC, this local chain has a green coffee buyer that does direct trade with coffee farmers for all of their coffee & roasts it in Greenpoint. Read more

They roast their own coffee here, and they're usually great. Try a guest espresso or pourover and a treat baked by them on the Lower East Side. A good number of plugs but sometimes overwhelmed wifi.

Great place, an island in the ugly neighborhood, good coffee, nice service, can be confused with apple store :) they make cafe au lait not like in the EU but they are aware of that :)
  • Project Latte: a NYC cafe culture guide
They roast their own coffee here, and it's usually great. Try a single origin espresso or pourover and something from their Essex St bakery. A good number of plugs but sometimes overwhelmed wifi.

Great place to buy freshly roasted, quality beans (Malacara makes a rich, smooth cup), and the baristas can prepare anything fancy you'd like.

It's true to cafe grumpy fashion, it's a rustic designed cafe with limited seating and the same good quality coffee. Nothing remarkable per se, but good.

All of the baristas are awesome minus the rude glasses/big hair lady. I asked for more chocolate in my cocoa, told me how "they do it" & then proceeded to shoot tons of syrup in the cup. Thanks, jerk.

The last shop standing of the four-store Grumpy empire to allow computer use, this neighborhoody spot is often as quiet as a library on weekends.

Brewed to order, it's the best cup of coffee you'll find in the area hands down! Try their Ethiopian bean in a macchiato for a intensely fruity cup.
