Blends
Roasting the best beans at the right temperature for great flavor. Each of Compass Coffee's 9 blends is a mixture of beans grown all over the world. The beans are peak roasted for maximum ideal flavor and combined with beans from the same growing zone to reinforce the consistency of the coffee's great, unique character.
7Th Street
Vanilla, Caramel, Almonds. Named after the location of the first Compass Cafe in Washington DC, 7th Street is a blend that is close to our hearts. It's light and sweet and delicious. Some people say if you close your eyes when you take a sip it tastes like a candy bar.
Cardinal
Balanced, Milk Chocolate, Toasted Nuts. The Cardinal is the very first Compass blend and the house coffee at the Compass Cafe. It's smooth and mellow with a nutty caramel flavor that works for all seasons and travels well for coffee lovers on the go.
Easting
Strawberry, Smooth, Creamy. This light roast is warm and smooth with sweet, syrupy flavors that belie its solid, full-bodied character. Like most things that come out of the mountains of Indonesia, appearances can be deceiving and the Easting blend is no exception.
Horizon
Bright, Berry-like, Sweet. The Horizon blend is a tangy African light roast with berry and candy-like sweetness. Its bright flavor and medium body make it perfect for breakfast or with a pastry in the afternoon.
Shaw
Vibrant, Dark Fruit, Cocoa. When you drink a cup of the Shaw blend, you know you're drinking coffee. With flavors like cocoa and dark fruit, its vibrant intensity gets right in your face and stands up to whatever you want to put in it--milk, sugar, cream, you name it.
Azimuth
Warm, Smoky, Intense. This unique blend is dark and intense. When you're burning the midnight oil or working on deadline, Azimuth is the fuel for that fire. Its smoky, earthy flavor makes it a favorite of lovers of rich coffee.
Decaf Cardinal
Balanced, Milk Chocolate, Toasted Nuts. Decaf drinkers hold a special place in our hearts. You love coffee for the flavor alone after all. That's why we've created a decaffeinated version of our smooth, chocolately Cardinal Blend--the house coffee at the Compass Cafe--just for you.
Embassy
Crisp, Savory, Full-bodied. Named for the area of DC where Compass Coffee was founded, the Embassy blend is a lot like Embassy Row. Layered and bold with diverse character that is at once crisp and savory, fragrant and earthy. You get a little bit of everything with this full-bodied coffee.
Meridian
Aromatic, Syrupy, Wild. Meridian was the first blend that made us sit up and say "Wow." Its intense, complex flavor and almost floral aroma were unlike anything we'd made before. You'll love this coffee like we do and then there's no going back. You've crossed over.
Waypoint
Full-bodied, Cacao, Brown Sugar. Every once in awhile you come across a coffee you can taste just from the aroma. Waypoint is one of those blends. Toasty, balanced and full-bodied with strong flavors like cacao and brown sugar, there's no mistaking this coffee.
Single Origins
Some places grow coffee so distinct, they stand on their own. We work with some of the world's best coffee buyers to import the most uniquely flavorful beans the earth can produce. From places as varied as Guatemala, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Kona, these single origin coffees don't just come from the same region, often they come from the same part of the same farm. This ensures the characteristics that make the area's coffee unique are properly highlighted in the cup you end up drinking.
Brazil
Butter, Dark Chocolate, Toasted Almonds. Full Bodied and Balanced We looked everywhere for a coffee that would be at once familiar and new. We found it in the mountains of Brazil's coffee-growing regions, where small and medium-sized farmers are currently leading a coffee renaissance. This single-origin coffee, carefully grown and harvested at its ripest, is then "honey-processed" using a combination of traditional methods and new technology. The result is a showcase of the best Brazilian coffee has to offer: medium body, balanced acidity and sweetness, with notes of dark chocolate and toasted nuts.
Guatemala
Cinnamon, Raisin, Dates, Brown Sugar. Clean and Structured. Throughout The steep mountain slopes of Huehuetenango in the highlands of western Guatemala are the crown jewel of Central American coffee. Their diverse micro-climates and lush forests are home to countless small, family-owned plots that have been handed down for generations. The accumulated knowledge and harvesting methods of their farmers continue to yield exceptional coffee with clean, clear flavors in the cup. We then roast these single-origin beans to highlight their sweet, floral taste and natural brown-sugar finish.
Ethiopia
Blueberries, Walnuts, Juicy Body. Bright and Citrusy Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe region is renowned for high altitude farms that yield small coffee beans densely packed with flavor. After harvesting, the coffee is dried for up to three weeks on raised patios under the hot African sun. Known as "natural processing," this method produces a sweet, citrusy coffee with distinct berry notes. We then peak roast the coffee to soften the bean's natural acidity and highlight it's inherent brightness.
