Airport originally named Moisant Field after aviator John Moisant (died in crash 1910), later Moisant Stock Yards, hence, MSY. Renamed in 2001 to honor 100th anniversary of Armstrongs birth
Concourse B has decent food. Lucky Dogs, Praline Express, and Live Oaks are some local options. The Magnificent Burger from Jester's was pretty good, and huge to boot.
Make sure you’re lined up in the right security lane for your gate, even for TSA Pre-check. Otherwise you’ll have to go through security all over again!
Don't go 5hrs early this is not you typical busy Airport! Also ask for the secret vending machine by the bookstore if you're looking for a snack or a drink! ;)
Brightairport, looks like a shopping mall. Big enough, but easy to navigate and very passenger friendly. Could be busy at the weekends, expect long lines. 25min/35-40USD taxi ride away.
There's a FREE shuttle that takes you from the airport to the French Quarter for the Essence Music Festival weekend. I think it just started today, DEFINITELY check that out!! Read more
PRO TIP: Eat BEFORE you go through security at ACME Oyster house. Delicious, but dont go there if you are short on time. Food options are BEFORE security.
Great experience with American and Southwest though! United ticket desk is horrible here. Do not expect help, compassion or anything other than Very unhappy folks who do not really like their jobs.
The main airport for those traveling to/from the International CTIA WIRELESS 2012 conference and exposition! Register before April 2, 2012 for discounted rates, and book your flight early! #CTIAW12 Read more
As of this date airport shuttle roundtrip to and from dtown = $38. Cab = $33 each way for first 2 people, $14 per additional person. Groups of 3 or more = cheaper in a cab. Van cabs available.
I hate to say anything bad about a place with Louis Armstrong's name on it, but this is the lamest big cityairport I've ever been to. Just a whole lot of nothing once you go through security.
Concourse C has little worth eating—an employee at the Zatarain's literally told me nothing was good. Don't expect to survive on anything but water & snacks, sprinkled with gross fatty southern fare.
Decadence kickoff was fabulous! Don't leave your phone unattended, some hoodlum will take it and police reports are antagonising. Have fun Queens!! Happy Decadence ;)
TSA at MSY is ridiculous! Why 1 person is checking boarding passes and 3 "watching" when there are 50+ people in line makes 0 sense to me. My advice is get there early / in plenty of time!
Just take a cab downtown if you're traveling w/someone. Downtown shuttle is $38 per person and will stop at several other hotels on the way. Cab fare for 2 is $33.
