- The New YorkerApril 28, 2014“Flay knows that while some people crave small plates of seared duck liver and beef crudo, others will migrate toward pizza, a comforting cube of eleven-layer potato, and ‘charred beef.’” Read more
- DensJuly 18, 2014The Foursquare tips are spot on -- kale paella, octopus and scrambled eggs as appetizers. The charred beef entre is one of the most delicious things I've had in forever. I'd go back just for that.
- Matt 👀January 27, 2018What a phenomenal meal! Was thoroughly impressed with every dish. Eggs n octopus are a must. The beef is phenomenal. The halibut great but beef better. Dark chocolate almond tart made me melt inside
- EArchitectApril 11, 2016Friendly service great ambiance amazing food. I asked the waiter for Bobby Flay's favorite dishes. My mouth is watering just thinking about them - Crab Risotto & Saffron Linguine with Mussels so good!
- Giovanni D'PalmaOctober 9, 2016The octopus was by far my favorite and the paella really stood out as well. The wine choosen by their sommelier was excellent. All around great meal, try some different items from the bar section.
- kate kAugust 29, 2014Of the 3 bar snacks we tried, the lamb tenderloin was incredibly flavorsome, the eleven layer potato had great textures but comparatively less flavor and the eggplant was somewhere in between.
- The Corcoran GroupMarch 13, 2014The latest addition to Bobby Flay's empire serves some of the best Mediterranean food we've had in a while. Start off with the lamb sausage pizza, followed by the kale paella & a side of cauliflower.
- Justin BretonJuly 27, 2014Great new restaurant in New York! Must try dishes: lamb pizza, kale paella and charred beef (pictured). You might even see Bobby Flay while here! We did. Large bar, too.
- Morgan McKeeMay 24, 2017Second time visit. Things that remain the same: best octopus in the city. Things that changed: go for the unique rice dishes over fish (halibut pictures) or meat if that's your game.
- Atu BNovember 18, 2015Coctails are awesome, try "Lorenzo" for a Londonish quality coctail. Mediterranean cuisine for the Americans tho not fancy for a Mediterranean
- The bar snacks are that good I ordered two rounds: pumpkin arancini, chorizo crepinettes and eggplant with manchego & balsamic. Pair with the Angelo cocktail if you like Rye & Campari.
- Ms HeleneOctober 30, 2017Dips to start, Gato salad, scrambled egg, octopus appetizers then light halibut, crispy paella and huge pork chop to share between 4. Skip sides of carrot and brussels. Date cake and apple crostata!
- Helena WongNovember 25, 2014White Bean dip, Octopus, Lamb Sausage Pizza, Halibut and Kale & Wild Mushroom Paella. And don't forget the Walnut Brown Butter Cake! Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here
- Morgan McKeeJuly 16, 2019Been here quite a few times, but took mommy this time. I had halibut and mom had paella, both excellent. Mom freaked because Bobby flay was cooking this evening. My fav side is the cauliflower!
- Avin NarasimhanNovember 19, 2017Managed to live in New York for 5 years before finally making it here. Lives up to the hype. Scrambled eggs will change your life, a must. Also the shrimp and the gato spreads are excellent
- Rory ParnessJuly 30, 2014By now, you've decided on the Octopus, Paella and Beef (go you!). Make sure you also get some sides - the potatoes are the crispiest most tasty anywhere the Broccolini too. Finish w/the plum tarte
- Margarita KrupJune 29, 2015Amazing roasted octopus! Also had the three small plates: lamb tenderloin and burrata was good. For main we had the rabbit and the orata. They were both perfectly cooked and the sauces were amazing.
- Andrea BarrezuetaNovember 6, 2014Never been a huge fan of Bobby's but Gato delivers. The octopus was amazing as was the crab risotto, the charred carrots, Brussels sprouts and the roasted cauliflower. Still amazed I liked it so much!
- Deniz S.A.July 6, 2014Oven roasted shrimp awesome. Don't forget to mop up remaining sauce w/ some extra bread. Tortiglione also great entree, but should either be less eggplant or bit more pasta. Slightly disproportionate.
- ᴡ FigueroaJune 30, 2019I went here for dinner on my birthday, not only was the food amazing but the waitress Lexi provided some of the best service I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend and definitely going back.
- Andrew CFebruary 27, 2018INCREDIBLE FOOD (+got to watch Bobby Flay run the kitchen, from our table)... lamb sausage flatbread was on point, charted beef was cooked and flavoured to perfection, and the drinks were strong!!!
- Kelly KearnsSeptember 27, 2014Loved everything we ordered: trio of bar snacks, scrambled eggs with ribbons if cheese folded in, lamb wood-fired pizza, sweet & sour roasted cauliflower, bread pudding! Will go back for the paella!
- Daniel BouludJuly 30, 2014My wife and I love the assorted small plates, especially the piquillo pepper filled with raw tuna. We also enjoy the soft shell crab crostini and the kale paella.
- Colleen SheaDecember 29, 2016Everything on the menu is amazing. The scrambled eggs and crispy potatoes are a must! You will be full just ordering a bunch of small plates and skipping the entree. The lemon vodka cocktail is 👌🏻

- Sean BesserAugust 11, 2014Bobby Flay is on top of his game in his new Mediterranean place!; Highlights: one of best octopus ever!, charred carrots, roasted cauliflower, lamb sausage pizza with mint, mushroom and kale paella
- Alana KarnofskyMay 30, 2014Easily one of the best restaurants in NYC- the paella is phenomenal, the crab toastada melts in your mouth, and don't get me started about the octopus. This place is a must..hats off to Bobby Flay!
- Tina HilllDecember 27, 2015Love the octopus here. Try grabbing a table in the front if u can't get a Rez. Bar is lively and bartenders are pretty on point. Great spot to eat at the bar if u can nab a seat.
- Barton SmithNovember 5, 2018Every dish was incredible. I never have dessert but we got it because I knew it had to be good (it was good). Also the bar menu is a great way to sample lots of things.
- CezaryMarch 15, 2014Bobby Flay has done a fantastic job with the menu, making Gato one of my top 2 restos of 2014 (along w/ Narcissa). The pork chop is out of this world. Other recos: halibut, garrotxa and potato gratin.
- Elizabeth IrizNovember 21, 2015The braised octopus will make you reconsider ever having octopus anywhere else. It is beyond tasty and tender! And then there's the kale salad. That's simply a must have.
- Beena KalaiyaDecember 21, 2014One of the best new restaurants in NYC. Must haves - scrambled eggs, octopus and piquillo peppers filled with raw tuna...great cocktails and excellent service... Highly recommend this restaurant.
- Adil IbrahimMarch 7, 2014The kale paella was phenomenal! Comes with a runny egg over crispy rice, the egg cooks after u stir it. Get the eggplant vegetable dish and the charred carrots. The salmon item could have been better.
- Leah HammerschlagJune 30, 2014Indeed, the paella is seriously unique and awesome. But I was also blown away by the halibut. The carrots are fine, but I would try a different veggie. Very attentive service.
- Cauliflower, octopus, scrambled egg dish - ALL amazing. BUT most special of all is the service. Friend's bday was recognized by staff in a really spectacular way!! LOVE GATO!!!!
- JaimMay 10, 2015Scrambled eggs, charred beef and the walnut brown butter cake are a must. Cocktails are pretty good too. Kale and wild mushroom paella was too salty.
- SerenaJuly 18, 2014not only was the food great - it was a confusingly good value. 3 of the bar selections, 3 apps (octopus, eggs, crab risotto), 3 glasses of wine, 2 of sherry & a dessert: $110. And we were full!
- Ernesto GutierrezAugust 18, 2016Entrees to go for: seafood risotto and the steak. Skip the small bar plates and go for medium size appetizers, the octopus comes to mind. Great place to bring a date.
- Morgan PolotanMarch 24, 2015Best scrambled eggs, octopus, and eggplant I've ever had. We saw Bobby Flay the night we were there. One of my top 5 in NYC.
- Can't describe how delicious the roasted cauliflower in agro dolce sauce is, same for the scrambled eggs toast w/romesco and boucheron cheese - based on a dish at Barcelona's Paco Meralgo.
- Kelli SolomonOctober 12, 2014I love this place. It's great for dates there are amazing small plates (some of which are better than tapas I've had in Spain). If I were rich I'd eat here ALL the time.
- HenaliNovember 13, 2015creeaaamy flavorful scramble eggs for appetizer..out of this world yet such simple ingredients. Well done Chef Bobby Flay :)
- Wilson ZhouAugust 8, 2014Now that the review cycle has passed, critics have agreed that desserts here are excellent — and that includes a classic, southern-inspired peach cake with blueberry gelato. Brown-Butter Peach Cake
- Daria ZatsepinaFebruary 20, 2016I don't eat sea food .but that octopus is wonderful . I personally like sweet and sour. Rabbit is the best if you like sweet and sour too. Salty ham+black currant =❤️
- Paula BuzzoJanuary 26, 2018Small but cozy place. The service is ok and food, delicious. Try their Rabbit with fregola sarda and crispy ham.
- Kate McCartyAugust 6, 2014The scrambled egg appetizer was out of this world - sort of small though to split between any more than two people. The artichoke heart was also amazing. The paella wasn't as good as I expected.
- Susan J CampbellOctober 26, 2015Charred Beef, porterhouse pork chop, baked octopus, gato salad all fabulous. Wines by the glass excellent. Busy, casual but quality of food top notch
- If I could only pick one restaurant to recommend in this entire city it'd be Gato. Good scene, great food & cocktails. Sit at the bar.
