- MatthewMay 1, 2015Pretty solid brisket with a good bark and sauce with a decent bite. Hot link a bit over done. Surprising they serve at the volume they do and it's still as good as it is. I spy smokers on premises.
- Village VoiceAugust 4, 2014This institution succeeds in perfectly recreating Central Texas barbecue. The brisket – available in fatty or lean – is amazing, but the beef shoulder is often even better, smoky and richly textured. Read more
- ZX QwertyJanuary 11, 2018Brisket. Chicken. Spare ribs. Pork belly. Hot link. Baked beans. Live music. Lone Star. What more do you really want. Atmosphere excellent. Cooks very helpful. Food one of the best values on city!
- Bobo BonitaDecember 4, 2016Went at 6pm on sat night. Short rib (bone in) was already sold out so we ordered brisket(moist), prime rib and pork spare ribs. All three are nice and the cucumber and cole slaw are good too.
- Tash ConcepcionAugust 17, 2014The moist beef brisket is truly excellent and a must try. Best sides: Longhorn Cheddar Mac & Cheese and White Shoepeg Corn pudding. Make a reservation. It's always packed it seems.
- Orcun IrfanSeptember 29, 2017Very good experience. Lean brisk is perfectly juicy and soft to eat. Sides are great. Good selection of beverages. Have a look at the items on the check to make sure all is correct though.
- AngieAugust 5, 2016Super friendly staff and pretty efficient for getting the food at the counter considering the long line. The moist brisket was great plus the bbq sauce added a good kick. The corn bread was amazing!
- Lee HoffmanSeptember 7, 2017Lean brisket is amazing, as is the mac and cheese, green bean casserole, corn bread with butter
- NicoleJune 9, 2015Go hungry. No need for bbq sauce for the beef ribs and pork ribs -- so flavorful alone. Leave room for sides and dessert! Great for groups.
- Alden CatesFebruary 26, 2015The brisket is a must-get, but so is the jalapeño and cheddar sausage, it's juicy and mild. Bourbon sweet potatoes are also a must, but skip the Mac & cheese, it needs sharper cheese or seasoning. :(
- DailyCandyNovember 20, 2013The Flatiron restaurant flies in Kreuz Market sausage, Big Red soda, Lone Star beer, and Blue Bell ice cream daily. Chef Elizabeth Karmel’s penne mac and cheese or green bean casserole are must-tries.
- PaddyApril 16, 2016Brisket is amazing. Probably the best I've had outside of Lockhart, TX. Ribs were ok and sausage was incredibly greasy/oily. Food is self service and the line for food is quite long during busy times.
- Zaphiria ZallasFebruary 13, 2015I can't find anywhere in the city with such great brisket. I mean it is absolutely delicious. Everything is perfect. Perfect for families or groups or a comfortable date. Like a picnic in the dark
- Rick NelsonSeptember 7, 2018I love how this place smells like whiskey and smoke as soon as you walk in. The staff are super friendly and all the food is good. I wish they had the lamb belly though!
- Chris DursoAugust 22, 2018Oh my, that brisket... cut thick, pillowy soft, perfectly smoked. Spring for as many sides as your wallet and belly will allow.
- Natalia BakerOctober 27, 2014Love this place! Super informal, you buy your meat by the pound! The atmosphere's really good, often with live music. Food is excellent, the smoked ribs are to die for.
- FaithSeptember 22, 2014ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE BBQ! Go here if you're looking for an authentic Texan meal in the heart of NYC! My friend from Houston gave it the stamp of approval!
- RCFebruary 25, 2015This isn't hipster BBQ. It's Texas bbq in Manhattan. Best in Manhattan I've had so far. Try the shoulder clod. Mac and cheese is made with penne and is good.
- Tobias ReiperJanuary 12, 2015Great atmosphere and a superb selection of tasty BBQ, the moist beef brisket is stunning! Well worth a visit anytime!
- Bobo BonitaDecember 13, 2016We arrived around 6 and waited 30 minutes to be seated. Too bad only brisket and ribs were available. Nice meat and ambience. Cucumber salad is very yummy.
- Andrew LamMay 20, 2012Texas-style barbecue... in New York City? Believe it. Dry rub brisket, spare ribs, game hen, corn pudding, sweet potato mash, and even Lone Star Beer, with a side of live American roots music.
- Dale TravisAugust 10, 2014Excellent sausage from Kreuz market in Lockhart. Wonderful brisket. Sauce was good, but could be a bit smokier. Blue Bell ice cream to top things if...felt like I was back home!
- Don't make rookie mistakes: 1) eat your brisket with a shake of the salt/pepper mix (shaker on table); 2) dont over order meat -- you can always go back up (1/2 lb + sides is plenty for most).
- Ozan VuralMay 2, 2013Adorable dinner. Rather than brisket moist try the boneless prime rib. Everything is perfect. Free drinking water service. Amazing barbeque place. Stay on the line for hours, it will worth!
- Kimmie OhhJuly 17, 2020Quality is top notch! Get the moist brisket, shoulder clod, prime rib & short rib. Get the longhorn mac & cheese & skillet cornbread!
- Laura Grow-NybergMarch 15, 2015A little loud for large groups, but delicious! Amazing sausage, deviled eggs, and cucumber salad. Nice cocktails. Happy hour after work until 7, and then late night happy hour starts fairly early.
- Barbara RoseJuly 2, 20131) Figure out the menu on Menu Pages, they just give you a little card. 2) Chicken was delicious. 3) They added the sides $ to the cost of the meal -- motive? They fixed it. 4) it is very "theme"
- Harumi UFebruary 8, 2015Brisket comes highly recommended but if you are not sure what to order and how much, try their set menu. The Pitmaster for 2 people, others for one person portion
- John KJune 18, 2019Love the beans! Jalapeño sausage awesome and brisket was better than expected but not great! Sides all good! Not too shabby for NYC!
- Steven LuAugust 27, 2014Always go for their moist brisket, it has a ton more taste. The burnt ends on the brisket is super tasty but the actual meat is kind of tasteless. Not cheap but still a great bbq spot.
- CompassMay 16, 2014Brisket, ribs, and pulled pork are excellent here. Whether they’re stuffed in a taco or served by themselves, the BBQ here is the real deal.
- EaterJanuary 11, 2012Pro tip: on Monday nights from 5 - 10 PM, Hill Country offers all-you-can-eat brisket, ribs, chicken, and sides for $25. [Eater 38 Member]
- Time Out New YorkOctober 5, 2011See if the smoked chicken wings are available: rubbed with a mixture of mustard powder, cayenne, brown sugar & other spices, then smoked for 2 hrs. They are one of our #100best dishes & drinks of 2011 Read more
- Elizabeth BursteinNovember 7, 2020Incredible pork ribs and bbq sauce. Corn bread ok. Bourbon sweet potato a little too much going on. Brisket also phenomenal
- James PhippsMarch 2, 2015Brisket, Beef Ribs, Shiner, Big Red & Blue Bell Ice Cream make this expat Texan very very happy.
- RisaSeptember 21, 2012Grub Street off-menu dish: Chili Mac. "Red chili & macaroni and cheese are both regularly available, but upon request, the restaurant is more than willing to combine them into a single gonzo mash-up."
- Nikki BarrLiciousJuly 21, 2012Born and raised in Texas, forced to live in Connecticut for marriage. Ate here and I was in HEAVEN, it was just like home. I had chopped BBQ, corn, Blue Bell ice cream, and a Big Red. Awesome!!
- Come with a group so you can sample everything. The brisket and pork ribs are highlights.
- Fette this, RUB that - HC is hands down the best pit in NYC. Moist brisket is a must. Pro tip: request "chilimac" at the Sides&Trimmings Bar and you'll receive a meatycheesy surprise.
- Christina ChristodoulouMarch 31, 2018Had a great meal here. Meat is ordered by the pound so you can have as much or as little as you like. Live music downstairs too.
- Bjoern WeidlichDecember 15, 2014Best brisket I've ever had. Make sure you get the "moist" brisket. My go-to is 1 chicken leg and 2 slices of moist brisket.
- Chooser the "moist" brisket. Like the name implies, excellent fat to meat ratio and a bark with a perfect caramelized/smoky combination
- Kinjil MathurJanuary 28, 2015Not only does this place make me feel at home with food & music, servers have southern hospitality! Couldn't decide between the ancho chocolate pudding and the bread pudding. gave me one on the house!
- EpicuriousAugust 23, 2010New York Times writer Frank Bruni loves this restaurant for the succulent brisket, heavenly ribs, mouthwatering corn pudding, and tantalizing peanut butter & jelly cupcakes.
