My first time and as avid ramen questor I think im going to cry on hpw good the ramen here is, try the first two ramens on the menu and dont forget the pork buns, foodgasm
If you see that the special for the day is the WasabiRamen, order it! If not, the Akamaru Modern is my favorite. Do not, whatever you do, neglect to order the green tea ice cream + cheesedessert.
Don't overlook their appetizers. Special: Shrimp and tomato salad ($10) and the Agedashi tofu and eggplant ($10) were both some of the best I've had in a Japanese place!
Buns are delicious & the ramen is very good, but not the best in the city. You will get rushed thru your meal and told they need your table for another party, even though they don’t take reservations
Still the best. Worth the ludicrous wait. (Just pop around the corner for a drink at Black & White.) Warning: don't over-do it on starters bc you cannot take home items you're unable to eat!
Don't leave this place without trying the Pork Buns. A lovely place for a date, with a wonderfully authentic atmosphere. Fairlyinexpensive too! A must try.
It is really worth the wait; the hype about this place is legit!!!!!! Trust me these pork buns are friggin amazing. I only wish I can eat them everyday!
Wasabishoyuramen is my fave! Be sure to get nitamago in it! (Also, mix well; the wasabi oil floats to the top.) definitely get the pork buns as well: best in the city!
Best PorkHirata Buns I've ever had. Yuzu PepperShrimp is also a good appetizer. For dessert get the Lady M Mille Crepe. The Matcha Brûlée was not good.
The wait is worth the time: went back for the 5th time and still the best IMO. Try the wasabi soyu ramen (vegan): really nice! The soup is not pork broth, just clear soup but very nice.
If one can stand the 1 hr plus wait while eating the delicious pork buns, the ramen is good. However, the wait time diminishes the tastiness of the ramen. Other quality ramen shops around the area.
The Karaka Men is a must if you like your ramen a little spicy. Come on the weekends before 1pm while the rest of New York is at brunch for shorter wait times under 15 min.
Tuna tartare in wasabi is amazing. The ambiance, a little stressful for me. Put your name in and go do something else for an hour since there is always a wait.
Order 4 sets of pork buns and then ask for Mel, twice. A person names Bo will come out and escort you to the basement. Go to the corner of the room and pull out a red brick. There you will find a map
Spice-lovers should go for option number three, the bowl with spicy meat sauce that you stir into the broth, rendering it brick red and incredibly tasty. Read more
Hirata Pork Buns, Akamaru Ramen and the daily specialramen are amazing. Definitely better than Momofuku. Went twice around 12:15/12:30 on a weekday & didn't have to wait for a 2-top.
We waited for like 30minutes to sit down, service is fast though. And foods are worth to wait. I so love the broth that I had in my ramen. :) I will surely come back.
Akamaru Modern and KarakaMiso Ramen (Spicy) are BOTH delicious! The pork buns are tasty too. As for the wait to get in be prepared to wait an hour or more, maybe go to a bar near by in the mean time.
I guess everyone knows ippudo. Best ramen place in New York ;) not fan of their pork buns but akamaru modern is very good. Wait time is ridiculous be prepared to wait.
Best. Ramen. Ever. Lots of other places try but they are just not as good. Astor Place, and a new location just opened on Upper West. For downtown location prepare to wait for hour(s)
Bomb food! Get there when it opens to put your name on the list. Usually about a 2-3 hour wait for dinner. But you can leave your number and go to a bar near by while you wait. Worth it. Promise.
Although the signature ramen is awesome, my favorite two dishes are the Hirata Buns, which rival those at Momofuko, and the Yamitsuki Goma Kyuri, cucumber in an amazing sesame sauce.
Waited 2.5 hours on Sat night - but they call you when ready, so we loaded up at McSorley's. Ippudo has the most amazing pork bun in the world....arguably the most delicious thing I have ever eaten!
Since the welcoming reaction when you come in and the food (ramen and pork buns) out of this world. Come by without hungry, you'll have to wait at least 2 hours.
There are many clones but only one ippudo in NYC for now. Get the special kasane aji ramen with extra shoyu tamago. Start with pork buns and cucumber, try the tenzan sake and remember to get kae dama
Their pork buns & the Akamaru Modern ramen are best two things you will ever eat. Ever. But only order what you can eat as you can't bring home leftovers.
