The prices are kind of outrageous for ramen, they encourage you to order extra toppings and they add up. But damn if it wasn't worth it. The Karaka Men was the best bowl of ramen I've had in years.

Although the signature ramen is awesome, my favorite two dishes are the Hirata Buns, which rival those at Momofuko, and the Yamitsuki Goma Kyuri, cucumber in an amazing sesame sauce.

Be prepared to wait as they don’t take reservations. Start with the pork buns and the peppers. Then try the Akamaru Modern with a bottle of Yebisu. Your mind will be blown.

So worth the wait! Akamaru modern and Hirata buns. If you find space in your tummy... Get shishito peppers. And end with annin tofu.

The best ramen in the city, period. Pro tip: They don't take phone reservations, but if you happen to work nearby, you can make one same-day in person.

The thing to order is still the Shiromaru Hakata Classic (the house pork-bone broth style) or the Akamaru Modern (essentially a high-octane Shiromaru).

Put your name down 1-2 hours before you want to eat, it gets super busy. All of the ramen dishes are tasty. Make sure you order pork buns as an appetiser!

This place has the best ramen around in the city, but with quality brings a lot of folks. Come prepared to wait in line, but the food is worth the wait! Order the pork bone ramen with the fried chicke

You have to wait for a table, but then: hot ramen, porky and rich, with dumplings on the side, cold beer. One of the city’s best meals.

RS says: Try the Shiromaru Hakata Classic: "pork bone broth highly emulsified, noodles slightly firmer than most and thinner, and pickled ginger is an important component of the flavor package."

Don't overlook their appetizers. Special: Shrimp and tomato salad ($10) and the Agedashi tofu and eggplant ($10) were both some of the best I've had in a Japanese place!

Over-hyped a lot. Crazy wait times but food is mediocre. Least impressive Chashu Buns I ever tried. Ordered Akmaru Modern - broth was OK but not outstanding. Chashu and noodles were meh.

Omfg...the pork buns!!! They are not at all like the Chinese pork buns. It's almost like a mini soft doughy taco/burrito shell with chunks of succulent pork! The order comes with 2 of them.
