Cynthia Drescher: Lovely lounge with buffet-style food, long marble bars, a quieter back area where napping is welcome, and the all-important private showers.
Cynthia Drescher: Of all gardens at SIN (and there are many), this may be my favorite with the views of aircraft and general whimsy. It's also a smoking area, but the smokers don't seem to venture far from the doors.
Level 57, Marina Bay Sands Hotel (12A Bayfront Ave), Singapore
Hotel Pool · Financial District · 169 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: Only registered hotel guests can swim in the pool, or even access the area behind a tiny viewing section. Worth every cent I paid for one overpriced night. At night there are LASERS.
Cynthia Drescher: If you book the cheapest rooms at the MBS (which are NOT cheap, really), you'll most likely end up in this tower. Rooms are fine, but not luxurious. Plenty space for yoga, though.
Level 32, The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore (7 Raffles Ave.), Singapore
Lounge · Downtown Core · 12 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: Ballin' and shotcallin'. Staying in a Club room gets you access to this lounge, with free breakfast, snacks, afternoon tea, a small dinner spread and booze. Tempting not to even go outside.
Cynthia Drescher: There is no point to having a room that does not face the Marina. You will regret it. Go for Marina-view on a high floor, then take a bath while all of Singapore watches.
Cynthia Drescher: The Valley Wing differs from other two wings in that it houses most luxurious rooms and suites, plus offers free afternoon tea and evening champagne/wine. Bathrooms are massive, Bulgari toiletries.
Boutique · Financial District · 70 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: It's a freaking Louis Vuitton ISLAND. It's not floating, so don't worry about it springing a leak. The lower level has vintage LV travel cases on display.
288 South Bridge Road (South Bridge Road / Sago Lane), Singapore
Buddhist Temple · Chinatown · 95 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: MUST DO. If you're not properly attired (understandable on a hot, humid day), even the exterior is fabulous. Take lots of pictures for Instagramming.
Cynthia Drescher: Whether you're staying in a tiny Pantone room or one of the themed suites, you've gotta check out the rainbow jacuzzi. It's not heated, because it's hot enough in SG. This is where to cool down.
3 Muscat St (btwn Muscat St & North Bridge Rd), Singapore
Mosque · Central Region · 84 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: Take a photo of this mosque and make your Facebook friends guess where you are (if they don't know already). Chances are they'll think the Middle East. What a gorgeous place.
Cynthia Drescher: If you're a tourist, you'll end up here at some point. And that's perfectly fine as it's an area housing some cute boutiques and cafes. Check out the murals down the sidestreets.
Cynthia Drescher: Lovely area for strolling, but there's also a few super cheap hostels and one tiny shop where a man makes THE BEST hot coffee. No name to the place, but look for people sipping coffee from baggies.
Roof Deck · Financial District · 204 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: If you're not sleeping at the Marina Bay Sands hotel, you can pay to take the elevator up here for stunning views. Nighttime is the right time.
Cynthia Drescher: Staying in even the basic rooms means colonial details and the coveted keycard to access guest-only areas. Walk up the main building staircase to find antique opium beds on the landings.
#02-01 Raffles Arcade (328 North Bridge Road), Singapore
Hotel Bar · Downtown Core · 150 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: A tourist trap, but I don't regret it. There's about 7-9 version of the classic Singapore Sling here, depending on the season. Throw your peanut shells on the floor.
20 Kensington Park Rd. (Serangoon Gardens Way), Singapore
Food Court · Serangoon · 192 tips and reviews
Cynthia Drescher: Definitely a far trip for the average tourist, but worth it to experience a hawker food centre away from the center. It's most famous for the sambal stingray and fresh sugarcane juice.
Cynthia Drescher: Okay so it's true the area is rife with bland expat bars, but walk through the area in the daylight and spot some awesome art deco architecture.
