- If you're looking for a bar outside of security, head straight to Terminal 1. Greenwich Village Bistro, in the food court, next to Sbarro, is your salvation.

- Very easily navigable; long walks be sure to add more time for the train to the rental car place
- Security lines can be a pain. The lounges cannot be compared to the ones in Europe. Though the airport is well organized.
- Rami IsmailJune 4, 2016Airport that can be great or horrible. Global Entry at this airport can help a lot despite the passenger arrival computers, as luggage handling tends to be fast.
- Taxis are supposedly a flat rate of $52 to Manhattan. Carmel Car Service is fast & offers $6 coupons (call, reserve, get coupon code first) off their $52 +tolls+tip fare (no long lines)!
- If you don't have much luggage, Airtrain to subway or LIRR is quickest way to/from Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn. And will save you $$$.

- I've found terminal 5 well organized, well equiped, not crowded at all
- Don't listen to those about DL. They are great. Want better service? Try paying more you cheapskate. Don't try to bring your bag to gate since they'll check it for free, those are usually first lost

- Take the LIRR to Penn station or recently open Grand Central Madison! (Protip off peak LIRR CityTicket is only $5)
- This is a frequent base for the Cosmos' inter- and transcontinental journeys. The rebooted team flew from here to England for their very first trip as a team, in July 2013.
- Massive airport with a variety of airlines, but most certainly dated in amenities and design.

- MhmtaliJune 1, 2013Airtrain it back to Manhattan if you're travelling solo. It takes an hour and it's only $7 compared to a $50 cab where you can get stuck in traffic. Just follow the signs.
- Make sure you know which terminal you need, especially for Delta! Terminal hopping will make your blood pressure SHOOT THROUGH THE ROOF.
- If you're headed to Manhattan, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, then the LIRR to Penn Station. Costs $10 - $15, depending when you're traveling & takes half the time of the E train.

- Jim McDermottAugust 8, 2011If it's your first time to New York, it's custom to do a little dance when you get off the plane. The gate agents will often put on Kool & the Gang's "Celebration" and join in.
- Delta's terminal 4 is one impressive place. TSA agents here are not the friendliest though.
- jetBlue's T5 is outstanding! Plus, TV and WIFI on board!
- Avoid private hire car drivers lingering near Taxi stands. Can cost almost twice as much, and the Taxi stand line moves pretty fast.
- Delta Terminal 3 has done some major upgrades! Lots of plug ports for USB and power and a couple good restaurants.
- hey holiday sfo->jfk arrivals! did you pack your warm/waterproof gear near the top of your checked baggage? you did?! wow. what a pro... (now no more crying about sf being cold for at least 2 weeks.)
- if you try to get shake shack or panda express in terminal 5, you will have to go through security again if you're flying from terminal 4... #flightsbeforefood

- There's a new Shake Shack that's a long walk down the terminal but well worth the detour.
- If you are taking a cab into Manhattan, there is a flat rate of $45 from JFK to any point in Manhattan. Tolls and tip are extra, as are a $0.50 (50 cent) surcharge for using the trunk space.

- Try the Bacon/Egg/Cheese on a Croissant at the Brooklyn Deli near Gate 41 in the American Terminal.
- If Shake Shack is on your itinerary, consider avoiding the queues and eating at their terminal 4 outpost!

- Amanda FoleyNovember 20, 2013Canadian passport holders: You can use the self-serve kiosks and the express queue. (Don't wait over an hour to find this out like I did)
- The security line can be a nightmare, but just follow the TSA instructions and you should be ok, try to wassail into the precheck line if you can for express service
- The traffic seems bad, but it is actually possible to be dropped off and picked up without too much hassle. Once you're in it's a nice airport!
- Muji has awesome Japanese import goods like mechanical pencils, fine point gel pens and home products. Worth a look, even if you don't buy anything.
