- CaroNovember 28, 2016Vibrant place. We loved it here. Cool modern interior mixed with some history. Nice rooms, friendly staff and good service.
- Gé .April 11, 2015Awesome to work and have business meetings. Free unlimited fast wifi, quiet enough to work, gluten free food options. Tables, couches are available. A former juvenile centre beautifully renovates
- EbenFebruary 8, 2015Such an awesome place. Love the area. No drunk students and high tourists around. Staff friendly and amazing concept hotel with interesting history
- Anne De JMay 27, 2016Everything but a hotel! Endless spaces to discover. My personal favorite; the library (somewhat hidden so go look for it!!)
- MishkaAugust 16, 2021Amazing, beautiful historical building turned into very special hotel, and the breakfast is definitely the best one I ever experienced in NL
- Janneke BoekhorstMarch 25, 2018Nice room. They have different styles of hotelrooms. We had a very big room with shower and bath
- Little ScrapesMay 11, 2017Unfettered access to a boiling tap in the corridor on each floor. Tea cups are tiny and only powdered milk. Buy milk in the supermarket opposite and bring your own mug so you can brew up properly.
- One night is not enough to explore all nooks. Free WiFi all over the place, cool "cultural embassy" rooms above the restaurant for getting work done. Rooms in the eaves are drafty & hallways creepy.
- Arno RichterAugust 22, 2016For our second night we got a nice room on the 5th floor. Almost perfect, but somebody in this hotel messed up the shower design. Water keeps spilling to the wood floor 😩
- Great place, friendly staff. Nice terrace in summer. Good place for breakfast meetings.
- Little ScrapesMay 11, 2017A former refuge for eastern European refugees, Nazi prison, juvenile delinquent prison, arts commune and now a fantastic hotel.
- The pasta vongole is a hit. Steak lover? Order the fries a side. Lovely weather? Chill on the terrace. Want to try something Dutch? Go for the shrimp croquet from Holtkamp. ps: The hotel has wifi.
- Ketil Moland OlsenApril 30, 2019Something out of the ordinary. Fascinating rooms, all are different. Looking forward to next stay!
- Jan W.July 18, 2015Inspiring hotel with a touch of craziness and a long history. Each room is different. Some are very luxurious, others really basic.
- Rooms are epic, even the ones in the basement. Have the eggs benedict for breakfast!
- I Wanna Go ThereAugust 11, 2011A weird but cool place. You can choose either stay in a 1 star room or in a 5 star room ( and all the margin between them). It work also as Cultural Embassy Read more
- one of the best breakfast spots in Amsterdam. former accomodation for immigrants to U.S in the early 20. century. now hotel and cultural center
- Arno RichterAugust 21, 2016This actually happened: hotel clerk unlocked and opened our room, while we were taking a shower. The fog made the (silent!) fire alarm at the reception desk go off. Had been showering for 5 minutes 🔥
- Arno RichterAugust 21, 2016Don't ever accept a room in the basement! Ours was damp and moldy-smelling. If you open the hard-to-reach window, the noise from the club across the street will prevent sleep until 3+ AM!
- The best hotel in Amsterdam, every room is different and it is out of the touristy bits but in the center.
- Arno RichterAugust 22, 2016Bring a Posix and Torx ~ size 10 screwdriver, if you want to fully open the windows on upper floors (not recommended/allowed!)
- By far the most strange awesome stay experience. Make sure to get the tour of various hotel rooms!
- Amsterdam MagazineMarch 25, 2011"There’s a bathtub in the middle of my attic room. Bits of sheep fur on the concrete floor, and a number of props, including an antique cabinet and a trestle table. " -Hotel reviewer Vincent van Dijk Read more
- Warm hospitality, good food, reliable wifi. A guarantee to come back again and again. I know I shall.
- Jessica EckmanJuly 13, 2015Extremely disappointed. When booking by star, realize that the photo shows a star up from what you actually stay in. Had we known, it would have been an enjoyable stay, but we felt deceived.
- Food's not bad but over priced. However, I would recommend their excellent cafe latte and pleasant (although drafty) interiors. Nice hidden spaces, also, overlooking the restaurant/café.
- Chilling gets a new meaning here: have your breakfast on one of the comfy couches with a hot cappuccino and good old newspaper
- The 2-star room is v. comfy although slightly chilly, no wardrobe and a useless table (desk?) taking up too much space. The shower also lacks a curtain or cabinet. However, all in all, recommendable.
- Anna TarantsovaMay 10, 2013Intresting design, but not convinient...think twice to stay longer than one night... p.s. no slipers and hairdryer in the room...
- saskia neirinckxJuly 19, 2010Great roast beef and horseradish sandwich, on the terrace, available until 1 in the morning! Plus- free wifi!
- Angela CampbellOctober 2, 2010Very interesting Hotel. Not for the faint hearted! A memorable place in a weird wonderful way!
- heidi harmanJune 26, 2011have a look around on all floors, the house has hidden places and librairies.
