Buildings of the old Dominican friary were converted into London’s first covered theatre here in 1596 by James Burbage. Shakespeare lived next door, and almost certainly performed here.

Smokers: great little 'secret passage' down the side of this pub, which doesn't lead anywhere but is a good place for a confidential chat and crafty cig.
