- Global HighlanderOctober 3, 2014The second best roaster in Chicago, Metropolis Coffee Company has quite a nice and relaxing cafe here if you want to make the trip up north. You can buy beans here too.
- Time Out ChicagoJune 4, 2012Outstanding sums up this delicious coffee roastery and hangout for Edgewater residents. In addition to serving up a mean cup of java, MCC also offers premium-grade teas and a small menu.
- Cappuccinos are delicious! Whole beans are fresh and they will grind them to your specific machine if you don't have a grinder. My favorite beans are Spice Island, La Cordillera and Red Line.
- John ShrimpMarch 17, 2018Our coffee aesthetic is rooted in the belief that great coffee comes from a line of respect beginning with the farmers and their respect for their land.
- David BlairMarch 19, 2013There are three ways to enjoy Metropolis coffee: 1) buy a bag of beans, 2) buy a cuppa from a cafe that uses Metropolis coffee, 3) go to the source. All are good. This is great.
- Their RedLine espresso is the best espresso I've ever had. Anywhere in the world. Do yourself a favour and get an espresso or americano - don't bother with the milk or sugar. It's that good.

- Russ HuxholdJanuary 31, 2013for Metropolis, offer mugs with slimmer diameters. wider = coffee gets colder quicker (ah.....drink faster, drink more coffee ;) This is one of the best cafes in the city - best pastries by far.
- Shana DagnyApril 10, 2014Ask for The Justin (off menu, something you have to charm Justin for, this is a "shoulder-to-cry-on" coffee, the "come home to grandma" coffee, or "love on a rainy Sunday" coffee it feels that good!)
- Thomas PritchardOctober 11, 2014Metropolis has some of the nicest coffee on the north side. I love their Mochas, and for such a great place they are very affordable. Great atmosphere too.
- Great coffee and the iced lattes are a standout here. They are one of the few coffeehouses that actually froth the milk in their iced espresso drinks, giving it a nice texture.
- Connor GApril 13, 2016Depending on when you go it might be tricky to find a seat but you can always count on good service and good drinks, especially the ginger coffee!
- $2 off on a lb of beans on Thursdays + punch card for buy 9, get 10th free = a pretty solid deal on excellent coffee. Oh, and a free small coffee with bean purchase.
- Serious EatsMay 14, 2013Though flavor profiles and preparations still tend towards the old(er) school, sweet staff push this cafe experience from good to great.
- Love love love it here! Wonderful coffee assortments and teas, plus a killer cold brew station. Also, love the fine folks of this joint.
- Time Out ChicagoJanuary 20, 2012"This humble spot is the gateway to one of the city’s biggest coffee-roasting operations. The café serves a mean cup of java, as well as premium-grade teas and a small, but tasty, café menu." Read more
- By far, the #1 coffee shop in Chicago and perhaps even the US. They purchase fair trade beans, roast locally and sell from this store and at many retail locations. Owners and staff R the best ever.
- Try a shot of their new single origin espresso! Redline espresso is also great. Very skilled baristas and great vibe, great coffee.
- Absolutely delightful staff! Best seat in the house: all the way in the back window corner on the big comfy sofas ;) can spend hours there with coffee and a book
- Hands down the best beans in Chicagoland. Big ups to La Cordelliera blend. Buy them whole and grind at home.
- Joe FifieldMay 16, 2013The Chai is very good. I was a little disappointed that they don't brew it themselves, though... Lots of good table space for studying. Props for having tons of outlets.
- Patrick EnnisAugust 10, 2019Coffee, tea. Excellent atmosphere with lots of LUC students and local community members
- It's cheaper than comparable roaster-owned coffeehouses, and is, in my opinion, the best. However, it is always at capacity and has embarrassingly slow wifi with a perpetually changing password.
- Samantha HillFebruary 14, 2016The coffee is amazing! Don't forget to take home a bag of fresh ground coffee for home brewing.
- Chris RJuly 25, 2013You might find this strange but as a non-coffeee drinker I still enjoy the atmosphere and those Fantastic breakfast sandwiches.
- Kellen TerrettAugust 11, 2014If you have the time, try the pour over service. The barista's here are extremely friendly and love what they do.
- James StewartMarch 30, 2013A rather so-so cappuccino, with the espresso overwhelmed by the milk and the foam very wet (so in effect more like a milky flat white than a cappuccino). Good buzz to the place, though.
- Absolutely the best espresso drinks in Chicago. Also a great study space - or make use of their library or games collection w friends!
- Best Mexican Mocha I've had every visit. Don't know what that is? Give it a try!
- Simon & Schuster ManagerNovember 7, 2011Dan Sinker: Located in Edgewater, this is a great place to grab an amazing cup of coffee and do some writing. If it’s warm, it’s just steps from the lake. http://bit.ly/v5tg6p

- Loyola University ChicagoOctober 26, 2011Locally roasted coffee and a cozy atmosphere make this coffee shop a favorite study spot for students.
- The 8 oz cappuccino has just as much espresso but less milk than the 12 oz. Thanks to the unknown barista who told me this.
