    Can't even say how cool it is to be able to see the word famous pictures for free. Better to visit in August (not weekends) - no crowd you'll see

    I love small-scale models and if you enter on the much quieter, less busy Orange St. entrance you will see the model of Trafalgar Square once you ascend the stairs.

    As you enter the gallery, can you spot "Cimabue's Celebrated Madonna", painted by Lord Leighton Frederic from 1853-1855. It purchased by Queen Victoria & is on loan to the Gallery

    Don't miss Hogarth's marriage a-la-mode serie, Turner's sunrise, Rosa's witches or Da Vinci's angel. Impressionists' rooms are great but tend to get overcrowded.

    The building that houses the portraits is a work of art itself. Lots of mosaic work on the floors and walls of the stairwells. Look up often.

    Start your visit a little early as you may need more than a day to browse all those marvellous paintings plus there are loads to see nearby at the National Portrait Gallery.

    Suggested donation 4 pounds- map 1 pound - audio 3.50 pounds. The audio is alright- lots of works covered. There are one hour tour suggestion flyers- ask for one. (if thats all the time you have)
