- For those using Uber to get home from the airport, please do not disclose your destination to the driver when you are called. The app has been designed to disclose the destination once the trip startsUpvoted 1 week ago
- B LJuly 27, 2016Lots of food choices, even a Woolworths. You can get a sim card at vodacom. But beware of beggars in the airport.Upvoted Nov 14
- Erin PettigrewNovember 26, 2013Network 'AlwaysOn' gives 30 min free wifi if you enter name/email on Complimentary Access tab at far right. And who says it has to be your real name/email? Whatever works!
- Random fact for the day.. O.R Tambo International Airport is the 2nd busiest airport on the continent of Africa. The airport handled over 21 million passengers in 2017.
- Fiona LishNovember 16, 2018Jacksons restaurant has the best views to watch planes take off and land. Also, the chicken burger and cocktails are really delicious :-):-)
- check in machines very cool and easy to use. Domestic flights between JHB and Cape Town carry politicians who behave in like spoilt red necks. SAA affords them special favor, ETA will be late
- Watch out for people pretending to offer help. Make sure they wear badges identifying themselves as employees. Unfortunately many crooks hanging around waiting to do you in.
- Paul BruggerJune 19, 2013Flying today? Receive real-time flight information to your Twitter account. Tweet @FlightStatus with your flight number. Please like this tip if you find it useful :)
- Rob MeronekOctober 2, 2012The best place outside of the terminal/sky lounge is the back corner of KFC with leather couches good for hours of passing out on long layovers. Power outlets everywhere, too.
- Enter International Departures at the passport control closest to the SAA counters. Always quicker than the main one.
- Bernard du ToitJanuary 31, 2015Flying International? Find some nice local SA fastfood places at the Domestic side, walk past arivals. Wimpy, Mug and Bean Fish and Chips and Spur!
- What’s not good in my opinion in international departures, is that there are no really good coffee shops or variety of restaurants to chose from. For example why do Mug & Bean not have shops here.
- Flight reader board often won't show flights far enough out to know where to check in. Ask one of the SAA staff at the entrance to each check in area and they'll tell you where to go.
- Cheen The CuriousAugust 28, 2022For international departures from Terminal A, after clearing immigration, we got African gin from Big Five Duty Free, souvenirs from Out of Africa, & books/cards from Exclusive Books
- Has anyone noticed the lack of maintenance - especially regards safety and emergency - there's a fire escape stairwell with a large rusted hole on the landing. 😳
- Nice clean airport, lots of nice shopping and dining options, if you’re star alliance gold, SA lounge is a good one.
- Dreaming of a ski vacation? Think Whistler Blackcomb on Canada's West Coast. Voted one of the best places to ski/snowboard and home of the 2010 Olympics. It's a destination that welcomes everyone.
- Timo R.November 12, 2017Absolutely crazy queues for transfer flights. Would faster to exit the transfer area and go back again through customs. There’s anyway screening for transfer flights too.
- muttibeyJune 1It is not small and I will say fair. You must go there 3 hrs prior to your flight since things go a bit slow. Duty free is good. Try the wines and especially pinotage options.
- Outside Terminal A is outside long term parking. Its R65 per day. Much cheaper than the undercover and convenient if you're late and can't make it to Super South.
- JackJuly 31, 2017If your connecting from an international fight and your next flight is also an international destination you are going to leave from terminal A and you can just use the transit within the terminal.
- Caroline AinslieMarch 14, 2013Love that airport! There is a lounge (for plebs like me) at the very top with electric plugs. Buy a coffee and a snack downstairs and be comfortable during your layover
- Amazing airport. Everyone in immigrations are so nice and welcoming, the airport is big and customs barely check your bags :). There is wifi in there so that's a rial A plus.
- Looking for a place to rest. Ask to be shown to the Slow Lounge. It's world class.
- Good selection of stores before checking in. Save some money (more like a lot) and get your food before you go into departures.
- Defs a world class airport. Great to navigate and something for everybody. Immigration will stamps where you ask them to, with a smile!
- Mario FerreiraSeptember 9, 2016Stores close @10pm, slow wifi and few items on duty free shops in case you need to buy clothes and items for staying one night at the city. At least it's clean and well organized
- Jacqueline HerbstMay 11, 2014Sushi at Seafood Bar (by Ocean Basket) is amaze-ballz! Seared tuna & avo salad is my pick for best value.
- South African airlines: you can have a shower here, a meal and free wi fi for 150 rands-15 euros.there is a baby-area with toys.Premier Lounge at terminal B domestic
- Marcio CacaoOctober 9, 2011I dun like this story that cannot buy beer before 10am! Hallo! Whoever arrives there has jetlag and a beer would fit very well! The smoking area (bar) at the first floor drives me crazy! No windows!
- Sharmla DharamalingamOctober 9, 2019The variety of coffee shops for every connoisseur...go on try them all
- BerthaAugust 7, 2015If travelling with late night or early morning flight, no entertainment....hhhmmmm nor spending of the remaining rands as duty free shops close early...by 11 most of them.
- Great shoe shine in the domestic departures remember to bring your shoes carry on these guys spit shine it so you can see your face :)
- Amanda ThauNovember 24, 2016The most organized airport ever! No issues with international or domestic flights, security or ticketing. Excellent!
- Like every airport it has its moments, it is well run and supported by pleasant people.👍
- If you're departing internationally from Terminal A (non-SAA) in the evening, walk over to Terminal B after checking in. Security and passport queues are much shorter there evenings.
- There is a very cool shop of african's souvenirs close to the duty free shop. Very good prices.
- MuratJune 11, 2016Very big airport with always a big crowd. Passenger friendly, but still give extra time for check in and security. Duty free is not that big.
- Steve RayFebruary 27, 2019If you hope to reclaim VAT tax on any purchases, be sure to stop at the customs office BEFORE you go through security check.
- World Class Airport Service - Only 15 minutes between Sandton Station and OR Tambo International Airport. Get a Gautrain Gold Card to pay and reload by creditcard for the train.
- Well organized and sign-posted. A world class airport...
- Xiao WuDecember 24, 2011If you're having a long lay over, check out the premier lounge on the 2nd level. Pay 40 dollars and you get to shower, eat, drink, go online with their free wifi!
- Steve MascordJanuary 18, 2011You don't need your boarding pass to get out of the international transfer lounge. If you have a long layover and your onward airline desk is not yet open, show your itinerary at the screening point.
- Svitlana AvramenkoNovember 24, 2017Love Exclusive Books in Domestic section, better then in shopping malls.
- Ulwazi MgwadlekaSeptember 27, 2014Definitely try out the Camelot Spa, within the Wellness Centre. The best service I've ever experienced.
- Gautrain actually only goes up to 8pm. Also note that you can now use Airport@Vast WiFi. One gig valid for the day.
