- Mark WongOctober 12, 2015High quality Japanese cuisine (sushi and beef) with a large list of Japanese whiskey. Great environment for groups, dates or special occasions. Tasting menu available from $98-200 per person.
- Go for the decadent omakase!!! Pricey but def worth it!!! If not, Get the american wagyu ($15 an ounce) king crab, butterfish tataki, robata scallops and brussel sprouts, and truffle rice hot pot!
- Ms HeleneNovember 10, 2015Immaculate rolls with special details. Yellowtail with scallions and jalapeño stood out. Garlic shrimp and butterfish apps. Great service.
- Natalie ZermenoFebruary 16, 2014Food is amazing! Service is amazing! Definitely recommend the asparagus and the skirt steak! The sushi is amazing as well! I was VERY pleased with everything this establishment had to offer.
- The yellowtail sashimi appetizer, mango four ways sushi roll, and black cod entree are the best things on the menu. This place is absolutely delicious and has the coolest female DJ on Friday nights :)
- Dana JensenMarch 15, 2015Really good rib eye, cooked perfectly. Dining companions got (also excellent) black cod and sea bass. Portion sizes are inconsistent, but everything except the very smoky tasting broccolini was great.
- Tania RionMarch 10, 2019Food and service were amazing! We were celebrating my birthday and at the end they brought a delicious dessert on the house. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in town!
- Raed MansourFebruary 17, 2014Stylishly fashionable staff, atmosphere, guests and food! Pricey but worth it. You won't go wrong with anything on the menu. Staff and management are great!
- Ayan AshkenovMarch 12, 2017I suggest the salmon avocado rolls and vegetable tempura rolls! Other than that, the place is very trendy and noisy. Make sure to book a table in advance!
- Serious EatsMay 20, 2013Roka Akor only serves its ramen at lunch when the clientele is sparse. But, figuring in the miso soup and nicely dressed salad, this lunch offering is a surprising value at $15.
- Exclusive ResortsSeptember 16, 2011Sushi & steak - now that is a great combo. Good wine list, nice atmosphere and great food. Get the Wagyu Beef and Kimchi Dumplings, Beef tataki w/ black truffle and Butterfish tataki for appetizers.
- Bee WilliamsJanuary 8, 2016I loved this place!! Definitely try the Wagyu beef!! Definitely worth your buck! Make a reservation though, this place gets busy!
- The decadent omakase is worth the splurge. Robata grilled steaks are amazing. The mushroom rice hotpot with black truffle is a treat.
- Crain's Chicago BusinessSeptember 8, 2011Everything off the grill is a winner: The pork belly appetizer ($12.50) and pork rib entree ($19.50) are slow-cooked in mustard sauce and seared on the grill; a light hoisin glaze finishes the ribs. Read more
- Time Out ChicagoDecember 6, 2011Try the chef’s selection steak from our 100 Best list: Go for the chef’s selection, they’re beautifully marbled, expertly grilled over Japanese binchotan charcoal, and the best value in the house.
- Angie OsmanskiJanuary 22, 2013It's hard to just pick one thing. The New York strip steak is amazing with the truffles! Must have dessert, it's melt in your mouth goodness.
- Jordan BishoppFebruary 26, 2016Phenomenal. Everything. The butterfish roll with scallop on top was one of the best things I've ever eaten.
- Patrick PaceFebruary 18, 2018Try the Wagyu beef & kimchi dumplings, 4 course chief special “if your adventurous “ and their dessert.
- Chicago TribuneAugust 1, 2014Gorgeous decor and upscale (and priced accordingly) sushi, robata-grill items and high-end seafood and steaks. Read more
- XinnieOctober 23, 2017I was definitely disappointed because they have such good reviews. Maki roll size is great but flavor is on the bland side. Crispy squid appetizer is good. Sashimi was fine. Not impressed all in all.
- Chicago magazineDecember 5, 2011Try: gilded wagyu tartare gunkan maki topped with caviar and wasabi and the lightly battered fried squid with jalapeño rings. Say no to the salt-grilled saba.
- Cedric A.December 3, 2011Pork belly is succulent, and the teriyaki salmon is great also. Some really good sake as well (quite a large and diverse list to choose from).
- Alexandre MunhozJanuary 30, 2023Beautiful space and presentation. Food had its ups and downs. Sushis and sashimis served too cold and were poorly cut. Careless. Black cod was delicious, beef and desert were boring. Very expensive.
- Madeleine GraceOctober 19, 2014Wagyu and kimchi gyoza and all of the sashimi and nigiri were phenominal
- Autumn ChoiAugust 26, 2019Was only here for the Happy Hour, which is super reasonable for food and drinks. Will be back!
- Alexis WinterMay 19, 2013Roasted King Crab and Butterfish Tataki were winners. Anything off the grill is "specialty". Also a great place for groups.
- reianDecember 28, 2022The Signature Omakase is a quantity over quality affair. Yes you get full for the price but the quality ingredients aren’t there.
- Marco HowellMarch 15, 2012Get the himachi Serrano sushi, wagu beef dumplings, beef tataki with truffle sauce and black cod!!
- Omakase all the way! Worthy date night or client dinner spot!
- Kim RMay 26, 2013O toro, butterfish tataki...and of course beef w ginger sauce. Yuzu semifreddo Yum...
- Amanda CooperJanuary 12, 2012They have the largest selection of sake in Chicago! We loved the lobster miso soup and butter fish roll.
- Ask for the OMAKASE( Chef's tasting menu). It's the best thing to do.
- Chefs FeedAugust 22, 2014Edward Kim, chef of Ruxbin, eats here on his nights off. He loves the Robata grilled Japanese shishito peppers. Read more
- Chicago magazineJanuary 5, 2012Penny Pollack says, "Wagyu gunkan @RokaAkorChi with green onion and caviar is a tasty way for tartare lovers to indulge."
- Be sure to request to be seated in the main dining room if you want to enjoy the full experience of the restaurant rather than the bar scene.
- kate FELDTDecember 5, 2011Steak filet - one of the best we've ever had. Definitely worth coming back for!
