There are no regular buses or trains from the airport to the city center. Taxis cost 20 to 25 CUC and need to most hotels in the center 30 to 40 minutes.
Although Havana has been neglected over the last 50 years, it is still beautiful to look at. None more so than the district Vieja (old town).
On the surface, the neighborhood looks shabby. But there is a real community spirit, everybody knows everyone! The best place to experience the daily life of a Cuban in Havana.
A great hostel to explore Havana, it is only about a 10 minute walk to the old town. The rooms are very clean but a little damp. They also have a wifi access - but you have to ask for it.
Wonderful to stroll from the Parque Central to the El Malecón. Watch the works of the artists and enjoy the moment.
Do not pay the first mentioned price of 40 CUC. Negotiate a bit and you get the ride also for 25-30 CUC. If you dont speak spanish, check if the guide speak your language!
Go straight through the lobby to the lifts and then up to the roof terrace. Here you can enjoy a Moijto with a great view. Extra hint: This is the oldest hotel in Havana (opens 1856)
A microbrewery in the middle of old Havana which serve a lager styled beer. Even if the presentation is very European, the service could be improved. Order the beer inside, it costs only the half.
Under the huge wall painting of Che Guevara stands his famous motto: "Hasta la victoria siempre" ("Until victory, always!").
We have only seen the painting from a distance. And that was more than enough. Neither the motif nor the execution were artistically valuable. Only the size impressed.
