Duck pâté mousse with almond biscuit, hamachi nori graffiti, anchovy sesame pancake and quinoa tahini corn salad. Amazing service despite the crazy line (came at 5:30pm for 9pm seating?)

There are lots of walk-in spots, but I tried arriving at 4:45pm on a Monday and missed out on the 5:30 sitting. Suggest 4:30pm, or you may have to wait till 9pm or later to be seated.

Great date spot. Can't miss: Quail eggs, state bird with provisions (best fried poultry in SF), burrata, tuna tartare & ice cream sandwich. Skip the hibiscus and horchata. Decent pancakes & dumplings.

Underwhelming and overhyped. Had to think hard for a favorite dish. Liked the fregola summer salad, pork belly, and sweetbreads. Ice cream sandwich was good too.

Start with the chanterelle toast ($3) and end with the shot of peanut milk ($2). Unique, tasty, and practically free relative to the rest of your bill.

Everything is amazing! You can have a fantastic meal off of the dim sum style offering, but the menu also has some fantastic items.

Everything is delicious. Cool concept - small servings so you get to try different dishes. Personally prefer this over the progress next door.

Always get the burrata... and when it's available, the maitake & duck ‘fried rice’ a la plancha. Actually, say yes to just about anything. You won't regret it.

Whether you’ve waited 2 months since you made your reservation or 3 hours since you put your name down, one thing is certain, your experience at Nicole Krasinski and Stuart Brioza’s will be worth it.

If you're planning to walk-in, go early (5) to put your name down. Come back after a movie and a drink and you should be in time for a 9pm dinner!

Esquire: Serves up creative, California-inspired dishes dim sum-style. I don’t think there’s any restaurant that captures the state’s madcap collision of culture and flavors quite like State Bird.

I honestly expected more. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Some plates are unique such as the mousse foie. However other ones are just good, not exceptional. Price is acceptable. No cocktails.

Waiters roam the room serving innovative small bites from dim-sum-style carts. The seafood selections are particularly worth flagging down for delicacies like black-garlic aioli on a fried nori chip.
