The essence of Austin, from Janis Joplin to Willie you know who. This is Threadgill’s World Hdqts, now inside the original Armadillo World Headquarters Concert Hall and Beer Garden, 1970-1990.

Top tip is incorrect. Armadillo World Headquarters was next door; but AWH's spirit lives on in the art on the walls and in TWH's beer garden when the music gets under way.

Be sure to ask your waiter or waitress for "second helpings" of whichever vegetables you order with your meal. It's an old Threadgill's tradition and they're FREE!

Their sides are almost universally excellent. If I were to ever "leave" my wife, she knows she can find me in a giant vat of their Scalloped Potatoes.

Honestly I had the chicken fried steak, not sure why everyone is saying it is the best in Austin. To me it is just Average. It's very plain with not much taste. But the walls are cool.

Interesting: this building used to be the home of the Armadillo World Headquarters as one of the early catalysts of the Austin music scene. Janis Joplin got her start at the original at 6414 N. Lamar!
