Lunch bentos are exquisite and not the humdrum usually found in quickie workday spots. I come here for a multi-course orgasmic lunch treat. Must-try: Black sesame soft serve and Sakura pudding.

Café Zaiya steadfastly remains, a Japanese beanery that makes all sorts of home-style and street-food specialties. Take a glance at the chalkboard outside for fantastically cheap daily specials. Read more

A nice place to escape the rush in the street. Cozy, clean, well lit and with a simple yet nice set of desserts and cafeteria options, you are likely to find some peace (and sugar) in this venue.

Pretty cheap prices for some good food! Diversity among all the deli and salad places sets this place apart. Many different choices: Hot plate area, sushi, bento boxes, rice bowls, bakery, etc.

Great for a fast lunch, the beef bowl with rice is highly recommended, sushi is not the best. And if you have the time ask for udon.

Try the Curry Pan - Yay! Foodspotting helped us find a Japanese curry bun in NYC! Not quite as fresh & crispy as Japan, but satisfies the craving and let me share the curry-in-doughnut-form experience

Go to the other Cafe Zaiya (on 6th Ave and 41st St). It has less seating, but has a little more upscale food choices and a bookstore for Manga fans! :)

If you love salmon sashimi, get the salmon tekka don - a bowl of rice, topped with seaweed, egg, salmon roe and lots of salmon sashimi. Made fresh if ordered in the hot food section.
