It’s a bit expensive at ¥800 but the ticket includes a bowl of matcha tea and sweet by the most beautiful picture window looking out on to the peaceful temple garden. One of the best spots in Kyoto

Highly recommend; 1. Rainy season, 2. After the rain, 3. Late afternoon on weekdays when less visitors. When the sun comes from dark clouds after the rain, it's so beautiful and impressing!

For bus seats availability, use shuttle service from JR Kyoto stn. taking 70+ mins. To avoid long bus ride, closer stops available at Kawaramachi, Kokusai Kaikan, Demachiyanagi, about 30 mins.

大原三千院の参道奥に位置する天台宗の寺院であり山号は魚山、勝林院の僧坊の一として長和2年 (1013年) 開創。盤桓園、鶴亀庭園、宝楽園の3つの庭園があり、その中にある樹齢700年の「五葉の松」は三上山 (近江富士) を象ったという。拝観者は入口で拝観料 (800円) を支払った後、受付で渡されるお抹茶券と交換で一服の抹茶と和菓子が供される。

素晴らしい庭を部屋の中から楽しむ、オススメは部屋の奥から見る額縁庭園

お抹茶とお茶請けがついて800円。囲炉裏のある縁側、額縁の窓、お庭も自由に歩けて人もそれほど多くない。京都にいる間に来ておけばよかった。

拝観者が少ない梅雨の時期の平日、雨上がりの夕方が個人的におすすめ。雨雲から日差しが射して来ようもんなら感動モノです。
