    明治2（1869）年に新町通四条下る西側に開校した下京第九番組小学校が、同9年室町通綾小路下る東側に移転し、成徳尋常小学校となる。その後、昭和6（1931）年にここに移転し、同22年、新学制のもと中学校となるのです。
