NaoNovember 7, 2015明治元年(1868)に元来の南大門は焼失。暫く門のない状態が続いた。一方で、京都国立博物館の建設と七条通を更に東に延長させるために利害が一致し、明治28年に蓮華王院（三十三間堂）から移築された。
