This park has two distinct sides, one is crowded the other is not. The northern side is wonderful for a quiet stroll. The southern side has the popular benches and rentable swan boats. Win-win.
I often come here to blow off some steam and to rid from my stress. This is a whole different Tokyo here, I am actually looking to rent a house just by the park.
The zoo on the island is only worth going to if you like amphibians, fish, and birds but the entrance fee is right. Head west past the udon place and out the woods to the larger for the "typical" zoo.
There's an amazing espresso bar on the far side called Blue Sky Coffee. Lovingly made cappuccino. Also they sell Yona Yona beer, the best micro beer in Japan.
