Redefining and completing the narrative of African Americans in America. A journey that will take more than a few visit to fully see everything. A beautiful dedication to our culture.
You could spend weeks here! Tickets are booked up right now, but there are limited number of same-day tickets available every morning online at 6:30. Well worth it!
The museum depicts many of the tribulations and triumphs of African-Americans in a very compelling manner. Start from the lowest level and work your way up to the top. Start early to experience it all
This place is massive!!! You need at least 2 days to go through it properly. Very overwhelming, informative and deep!!! A must see here in Washington!! So glad we stopped in.
An amazing museum full of joy, accomplishment, and sadness. There is so much to see it cannot be done in one go. Even if it's sold out, show up and some kind stranger may give you their extra tickets!
Amazing powerful and informative (while still being objective) museum. It’s relatively new museum amongst many good ones in the area. I would definitely say it’s one of top 3 museums in the area
Amazing museum, well designed. Like the lower fls but its so depressing to see. Reflecting pool is nice place to reenergize. Food great, get the fried chicken and potato salad side, skip mac n chse
This museum is so amazing in the way it’s laid out. You could easily be here an entire day because there’s so much information available. I love it and plan on returning soon.
Knowing there are waits on weekends, I decided to ask if I could get in -- and they let me in! The woman at the door said she had extra spots to give away. So it's worth asking -- just have a plan B.
The Culture floor was the best... it took me back to my child/teen years and I danced a little. It was packed though and some of the areas with video were hard to appreciate with the noise of others
A true national treasure. Takes at least a full 2-3 days to take in everything. Emotionally charged, and inspiring. Come learn about American history that is too often neglected.
I clicked the Foursquare like button really hard! Incredible experience spanning the history of African Americans from slavery through to the achievements of modern day culture.
Take the whole day and absorb it all. From the history of the slave trade, through the civil war and civil rights era including a good look at the contribution of African Americans through the years.
Photography is not allowed in the Emmett Till exhibit area, so don't worry about having your cell phone out; instead, pay your respects to a human being taken far too early in his life.
Incredible museum and long overdue. Check for available tickets online the morning of (at 6 I think). It can get a bit crowded, so just be prepared for that. But still 100% worth going.
The Museum is Awesome. This should be on everyone's Bucket List....Black People, White People....any race should visit and listen and learn with an open mind....very Humbling.
this is the museum America needs. this is our holocaust, spanning centuries. our nation was built by slaves and this place honors the sacrifices of millions & achievements of individuals magnificently
There is so much to see here! It will take you all day (if you have the time) to see everything! I recommend if you are in the DC area for a few days, come to this museum multiple times!
This will take all day. There's technically 6 floors: 3 above, 3 below ground level. Use the reflection room when the content gets too heavy in the lower floors.
One of my favorite places in the world. Everyone needs to visit this museum. It is well done and gives you an awesome experience in the history of America. The most beautiful museum in the world.
Loved this museum. So much to learn, love, and appreciate. I recommend it as one of the best Smithsonian museums. It’s easy to navigate through. Plenty of hands on activities for small ones.
A bit overwhelming. You do need almost 2 full days to see it. Do the above ground floors one day which is about the culture and the below ground the other day, which is more about history
The fourth floor houses the museum's cultural artifacts. You can see the Funkadelic mothership and A.J.'s hat from Good Times. I Didn't need advanced tickets to see the museum but the place is packed.
President Obama delivered remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the future Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Read more
You’ll need multiple visits to get through. It’s still very crowded but the value of a free museum of African American history & culture makes for an incredible and memorable education.
Almost certainly a visit you should split into two days. So much to absorb in the history section below; it's both inspiring and emotionally exhausting.
The exhibits and displaysand put together very well.staff were friendly and informative but the securitity staff was breaking the museum's rules about carrying guns inside the musem building.
An amazing journey celebrating the cultural contributions of African Americans, as well as revealing the wretched history of slavery and the power and perseverance of black people over 7 centuries.
Incredibly heart wrenching overview of African American history so far, culminating in Obama's presidency. An absolute must for all Americans, old and new.
The restroom is at the bottom of the exhibition so remember that before you go up too many levels, you’ll have to return to the bottom or leave out the top and re-enter from the entrance.
