Come between 9 and 10 a.m...no line! Small hot Marukake Udon with egg and sweet beef was so very good, inexpensive (under $7). What a great breakfast/brunch. So obvious why usually there are lines.
The line moves fast. Had 50 people in front of me and it only took 25 mins to get to the door. Plus, no matter the wait IT IS WORTH IT!!! Try the ontama udon; it has a soft boiled egg. Nom!
Make sure to tell them it's "TO GO" when you order from the girl if you're not eating there. They get irritated if they have to transfer from bowl to the take out containers. Phenomenal food!
If heaven was Japanese, it would be Marukame! :) Hand made udon, delicious warm broth, spam misubi, and buffet styleassortment of tempura and onigiri... This means, bring out your stretch pants! :)
We aten NIKUTAMA udong, ZARU udong and fried shrimp. all of them taste good. but, nikutama udong was a little salt. When I visited here at lunch time so I waited just a 15min.
The #10 with cold broth is amazing! The egg was cooked perfectly and I love how they put the scallions and crunchy bits in your udon. Line moves fast, but you'll probably end up waiting a bit.
Their udon is made in house and just good! I had the curry udon. I love how you get to select all the tempura you want. The shrimp tempura is a must. And grab the spam musubi as a snack to go.
Lives up to all the hype! Line goes quickly, don’t be intimidated. Recommend the #6 or #10 along with potato croquettes and tempura shrimp and omelette!
The best udon ever. Also there is always a line outside here no matter what time of the day it is. Really nice place and the food is just perfect. Highly recommend to visit it if you are in Honolulu.
Had the Niku, curry and Kake udon. My fav -Niku udon. Curry was good too. Kake is just plain broth. Sweet potato tempura - delicious. limited seating -especially if you are a party of more than 2.
WORTH THE WAIT. Trust us- we saw the lines and wanted to skip it, but it's deceiving. There were approx 30 people in front of us. The line went fast and was well worth it. A must-try when here.
I always go here when I'm hungry. It may be first time since about 5-8 years. It was very delicious!! But prices are currently soaring now, so it will be fewer opportunities to go here.
I'd pass on the tempura crumble topping next time. They get soggy and kinda gross real quick. Great tempura selection! My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I was KO'd afterwards - careful!
My husband recommend the #8 and it was cooked perfectly. The egg, scallions and crunchy bits were awesome. The deep fried chicken, pumpkin and sweet potato was amazing!!
Great value for delicious food. The line goes by quickly and the staff is super friendly. Try the curry udon and pair it with any tempura. If there isn't any tempura left, order it at the cashier.
Good service! If you want something to be made right before you want to pay, ask the staff if they can make one and they will bring it to your table so you won't have to wait in line!
food in HI is expensive as it is, but this place was like a hidden gem! the prices are cheap and the food is fantastic and freshly made! the long lines are so worth the wait.
Watching the noodle maker in action is entertainment in itself. But once you dine here you'll see why there's a line outside during peak lunch and dinner times. Excellent food!
Come early (like 7am) if you want to avoid a long line up to taste the udon and tempura at this very very popular Japanese restaurant. Open for breakfast.
Had beef in broth udon 16 on the menu if I remember correctly. Very good. I didn't care much for the tempora veggies need something to dip them in. Also, there are no restrooms.
Freshest udon ever. Curry udon is my favorite but all of it is delicious. Must get the huge masubi and/or tempura. Highly recommend going during slow periods because the line gets long fast!
So good!!! The Niku Udon is the perfect amount of meat to the awesome noodles. Curry Udon is amazing. The fried stuff is okay... No free refills on fountain drinks. Really fast service.
The line outside moves quickly, don't let it discourage you! Udonnoodles can be ordered hot or cold, perfect for warm weather. They now accepts both cash and cards.
Kake udon and all the tempura you want! More of a lunch spot. To avoid the line, come right at opening time or before 1230pm for a much shorter wait. It is not really worth more than 20mins wait.
In the words of Tina Turner “You’re simply the best...” They were closed for renovation during my last trip to HNL but I shall return soon. Simple, quick and delicious.
May not be worth the wait.. I've tried the curry and ontama and it is good udon/Japanese curry, but not exceptional. You can find the same quality and flavor at any good Japanese restaurant.
Delicious udon!! Kake udon + egg, negi and tempura flakes. Great selection of tempura. Noodles made fresh there. Shichimi is available near the renge. Not a huge line around 3 pm.
