This is a beautiful, beautiful library. The photo ops are plentiful, and there is a really nice self-guided tour. Make sure to check out the portrait of George Washington in the reading room!
Possibly my favorite place in Providence. FYI - I brought my kids and was reduced to tears ( happy ones) when finding some classic children's stories I read many years ago.
A must-visit spot for Lovecraft and Poe fans, as both men spent significant time here. Get there early and grab one of the desks on the balcony overlooking the main floor. Read and people-watch.
Founded in 1836, the Providence Athenaeum is an independent, member-supported library. The Greek Revival building that houses the library was designed by Philadelphia architect William Strickland. Read more

This is a collection of historic buildings that almost form a small town. Entering the area allows a person to shed the modern world for a world of the mid 1700’s.
