Probably one of the coolest places on the planet, but stay away from popular hotels and bustours. Hire a tuk-tuk by the week and make a plan of what to visit each day staying away from the mobs.
Fantastic part of the world - amazing temples in nearby Angkor. Siem Reap has great markets, lovely food and a great selection of bars/nightlife. Love this place
$30 per person visa, need ID photo, city is small, need lots of $1 bills, always negotiate, street food not good, good restaurants, spend a full day with a guide in angkor wat to see primay temples
Wonderful place with some marvelous historical archeological sites and temples. Many guides around, but we have found a great one (Mr. Chhey Bunna 017604118 or +855-17604118). Highly recommended.
There's literally two dozen temples here that are a 'must see', you could easily spend 1-2 weeks here. It's better to hire a tuk-tuk to stay with you the whole time and come up with a plan each day.
Be careful at the temples deep in the jungle without many tourists. There's still live landmines around so only walk well trodden paths. Finding a secluded place to relive yourself can be dangerous.😳
Be prepared for rain with a side of rain, lol! If you come during monsoon season, it rains 3 or 4 times a day. Mid September currently, and it seems to rain in 30-60 minute spurts 2-4 hrs apart.
One of the best restaurants i have eaten at in the world. I had the Charolaise steak amazing. My wife had escargot and tartar and said it was also great. The best french restaurant in Siem Reap.
If you ran out of dollar or riel, try asking the vendor whether they accept your local currency or not (instead of going to money changer). Don't forget to bargain as well!
Kymer Kitchen down one of the side streets off Pub Streets has the best food I've ever tasted. The market area was mind boggling. Got a rich variety of everything.

Keywords: Helloo lady tuktuk?,Massage 1 dollar & buy something. Happy people, smiling faces everywhere. If u want to shop in a less crowded place and find better prices try the Night ArtMarket.
If you'll come here from Bangkok and get ur visa from Poipet border, u can get ur visa from the border for 600 baht not for 1800 from agent. Also be prepeared for a long journey from border.
The Temple-hopping adventure is really tiring but very rewarding. There's alot of tourists though and it's near to impossible to get a picture without them. Be an explorer/traveler not just a tourist.
Bring a bag of penny candy with you, you'll encounter a lot of kids when exploring and they can point you towards some unknown sites. They seem to have an affinity for ballpoint pens too!
Extremely touristic. Prices for foreigners are different from prices for locals. Scams everywhere. Pushy tuk-tuk drivers... My second time here in 4 years and I can say it's gotten much worse
Don't settle for first quoted price. 90% of time, you'll get ripped off. Don't give your desired price first. Let the seller give his price - at first, it will be 2-3 times what they're expecting.
