    日本橋交差点角にあった東急百貨店(平成6年1月閉店)は、昭和33年まで白木屋という屋号でした。白木屋は、近江商人大村彦太郎の創業、越後屋と肩を並べる呉服の大店で、二代目彦太郎が正徳2年(1712年)に掘った井戸の水は、付近の住民のみならず、広く「白木名水」とうたわれました。 現在、白木名水は消失しましたが、東京都指定の旧跡として記念碑があります(中央区観光協会HPより)
