    弘前藩上屋敷は緑町公園だけでなく、総武線を超えて南側まで広がっていました。上屋敷としては異様に不便な位置ですが、弘前藩はより江戸城に近い向柳原 (台東区鳥越 1 丁目) に中屋敷を持っており、そちらがメインだったようです。しかし向柳原の中屋敷は 1827 年に戸越へと急遽屋敷替えの命。一説には「夜鷹殿様」と呼ばれるほど素行が悪かった弘前藩代 10 代・津軽信順に対するペナルティとも。
