    【国宝】指定名称は「薬師寺東塔」…三重の塔でずが各層に裳階［もこし］と言われる小さい屋根があるため六重に見えます。この大小の屋根の重なりが律動的な美しさをかもし出し「凍れる音楽」という愛称で親しまれています。薬師寺で唯一創建当時より現存している建物で、1300年の悠久の時を重ねてきた歴史をその姿から感じられます。

    2009年からの東塔の解体修理に伴い、2013年11月30日まで公開の東塔相輪の実物展示は、水煙に透かし彫りされた24人の飛天を間近に見ることができ、写真撮影も可能です。
