Ao Oni-kun, who will most likely welcome you to Takamatsu if you arrive by train is the unofficial mascot of Kagawa. You can see its little brothers and sisters on Megijima. (artist: Yoshifumi Oshima)

浜田廣介の童話「泣いた赤鬼」に出てくるキャラクターで、友達の赤鬼を助けるやさしい青鬼がモデルとなっている。童話の中では青鬼が旅に出たところで終わっているが、その後の設定として香川県に立ち寄った青鬼が讃岐のお接待の心（四国霊場八十八カ所巡りのお遍路さんに対するおもてなしの心に代表されるもの）にふれ人々の温かい心に感謝してこの地に住み着いたということにしている。

香川県では瀬戸大橋が完成した平成元年から、県内の市や町・観光業界・運輸業界などの方々といっしょに、「わがかがわ観光推進協議会」をつくり、魅力ある観光香川の創造と発信を図っている。このなかでマスコットキャラクターとして親切な青鬼くんが活躍している。

泣いた赤鬼という童話に登場する親切な青鬼くんの彫像的なもの。1989年に香川県のおもてなし運動のマスコットキャラクターとして採用されて以来、ずっと地味に活躍しているようです。
