After your visit to the Forbidden City, exit at the north gate and visit JingShan Park just across the street. The views on top of the hill are fantastic and the entrance fee is only 2 RMB.
Wangfujing is one of Beijing’s modern shopping streets. Ignore the hawkers selling novelty skewers of deep fried spiders and scorpions, and head to Haidilao in the Tianyingtai Department Store.
Pay to go in the actual garden. It's totally worth it! You can enter for half of the entrance fee with a student ID.
