Chris G: Apollo 9 Command Service Module, call sign "Gumdrop" is on display here. Gumdrop was the first named spacecraft since the first manned Gemini mission. The crew picked Gumdrop, because of the shape.
Chris G: Apollo 8 CSM is on display here. Launched 12/21/1698, Apollo 8 became the first manned spacecraft to leave low-earth orbit, first to reach the moon and orbit, and the first to see the whole planet.
Chris G: Apollo 7's CSM is on display here. Apollo 7 was the first manned spaceflight after the Apollo 1 fire that killed the crew. Also, this mission marked the first time a US spacecraft had 3 crew members.
Chris G: Launch Pad 34 is where the Apollo 1 Fire took place. A cabin fire during a launch pad test killed all three crew members: Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee. It now serves as a memorial to them.
