This area was an early French Catholic farming community founded in 1832 by Claude Druhot. The log chapel that was built predated any Catholic church building in Cleveland, Akron, and Toledo.
On June 17, 1863, the 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry approached a fortified camp of nearly one thousand local citizens in defiance of conscription. After firing at soldiers, the "rebels" scattered.
Built in 1902 by Cleveland industrialist L.H. Brightman, this mansion has been featured on HGTV. It is now open for tours as a museum and is home to the Holmes County Historical Society.
Built in 1889, the Boyd School is one of the country’s oldest surviving schoolhouses. It was used as a school until 1952. The architecture is Italianate.
