Less than 30 minutes from the city you'll find this awesome beach. Not so hot for surfing but perfect for cricket, sand dunes, the river and a day with the family.
A relatively cheap cafe with a nice atmosphere. Perfect for a mum-and-dad-date or the entire family. If you do bring the kids try and sit at the couch with the stuffed lion!
If you fancy a scenic drive through the ranges, one of the best parks in the region is on the main road in Pahiatua.
A great little cafe and farm park, if you have kids it's well worth the drive down from Palmerston North. You can wander amongst the rabbits and chooks or go pat the goats and lamas!
New Zealand's largest independent cinema chain is based here. It's simple, clean and central with all the big films. If you have young kids look out for the "bring baby too" films on Wednesdays.
I know, "just another shopping mall!" But this is the region's largest with a good range of shops for all the family. The big downside is the lack of stylish guys clothing stores :(
A kebab place with a real Turkish feel. Reasonably priced and amazing to eat. If it's crowded you can always go across the road and eat in the Square.
