I've lived in Palmy for 20 years so thought it was time I shared some of my highlights for everyone to enjoy! I'm a dad with two daughters under five, so all of these places are family-friendly.
Andrew Spear: Check out the biggest playground in the region (suitable for all ages), the paddling pool, indoor tropical garden, rose garden, cafe, avery, bushwalks, bike tracks, a river or take a mini train ride.
Andrew Spear: Less than 30 minutes from the city you'll find this awesome beach. Not so hot for surfing but perfect for cricket, sand dunes, the river and a day with the family.

Coffee Shop · 14 tips and reviews
Andrew Spear: A relatively cheap cafe with a nice atmosphere. Perfect for a mum-and-dad-date or the entire family. If you do bring the kids try and sit at the couch with the stuffed lion!
Andrew Spear: A great little cafe and farm park, if you have kids it's well worth the drive down from Palmerston North. You can wander amongst the rabbits and chooks or go pat the goats and lamas!
Andrew Spear: New Zealand's largest independent cinema chain is based here. It's simple, clean and central with all the big films. If you have young kids look out for the "bring baby too" films on Wednesdays.

Shopping Mall · 8 tips and reviews
Andrew Spear: I know, "just another shopping mall!" But this is the region's largest with a good range of shops for all the family. The big downside is the lack of stylish guys clothing stores :(
Andrew Spear: A kebab place with a real Turkish feel. Reasonably priced and amazing to eat. If it's crowded you can always go across the road and eat in the Square.
