MoMA offers "National" membership for those who live 150 miles from NY. It's worth it and pays itself in about 3-4 visits (per year), especially when it comes to Special Exhibitions: Cut line!
In addition to Gertrude Stein's importance to the Arts & Letters and friendship with Picasso and Matisse, the significance of this show is that the Steins hailed from the Bay Area.
Puny compared to NY MoMA (what's not?) but packs meaningful exhibitions nevertheless. The top two floors showcase Special Exhibitions while the second floor displays revolving permanent collection.
Met Museum offers Associate Membership for those residing 200 miles radius outside of NY. Worth the buy to cut line during Special Exhibitions, and pays itself in a few visits. Art lovers, get yours!
Not as awesome as their Paris counterpart (Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle) and a bit chaotic in organization, but still a good place to visit.
