Take a hike at this nature area. Explore the forest, grassland, or wetland. Spot deer, turtles, and hawks. Inside, borrow binoculars or hang in the kids room. They have excellent programs and events.
A gorgeous place to get lost. Don't pass up a stroll through this garden if you are in the area.
The butterfly house is a winter haven. Kids will love the water play area and the kids area. The changing exhibits upstairs are usually great.
A tranquil area to wander and bird watch. You'll forget you are in the city.
A great path to jog or bike. Some bikers ride very fast on this path so be aware of the people around you.
If you make it all the way to Lincolnwood, you'll be treated to some sculpture art. There is a lack of water fountains on the path, so BYOW.
These gardens deserve an entire day. Don't miss the winter train exhibit and take the time to wander around the gardens in winter. They are beautiful all year! Entry is free, parking is $25.
The Children's Garden is in a class of it's own. This entire park is very well designed and maintained. It's worth the drive if you're in the city!
Always free, this facility is an amazing oasis in the city, especially on cold winter days. Their seasonal displays are amazing and the fern room is a child's dream. The kids garden is underwhelming.
Look for ducklings in the spring. The path by the pond is tranquil and relaxing, especially if you've been bumping elbows at the zoo or nature museum.
You'll be amazed at the variety of bird species if you take the time to sit quietly and watch. A beautiful area!
A bit of a drive from the city, but the trails are lovely and they have a cabin to explore. They tap the trees in March and the inside area is worth a few minutes of your day.
Smaller than Garfield Park, but worth a stop, especially if you're already in the area. The outside gardens are great for summer picnicking.
Nice trails and they have a wildlife rehabilitation program. The indoor facility is small, but informational.
