If you are in the city, you must visit Stumptown. Great for people watching by the windows, or you can take your drink to the ACE hotel lobby and do work on the cozy couches. Good luck finding seats!
Make damn sure to experience the siphon and Chemex coffee at the siphon bar up the stairs in the back. Near Chelsea market, and has a very open feel to the cafe. Good for 1 on 1 talk.

My hiding place. Good place to have manual hand-drip coffee because they had really good single origin coffee you can choose from. No laptop policy so bring some newspaper or book and watch people
Smiling baristas and consistently good lattes bring me back to this coffee shop near my campus. Only cafe worth visiting in the area! Good for recharging with a close friend. Small space and seating
I'm jealous of NYU kids who have access to this awesome cafe because it's right across the street from the dorm! Lots of small tables to bring your laptop and school work.
