Usually crowded, but with a good mix (lawyers, students, artists, tourists); small, traditional, wood-panelled pub with photographs all around. Lovely staff, intimate atmosphere, all-around cosy.
I've had their spinach dumplings/Spinatknödel at least fifty times in my life. Wonderfully minimal interiors, proper Austrian cuisine, and rarely too loud. Good for families and chats with friends.
Japanese restaurant and jazz bar (neatly divided). Mesmerising lamps that look like moons, and people start dancing after midnight. Loud but lively.
When you're all messed up in the wee hours with no place to go: Bar Italia, which is really more of a café. Deserves a medal of honour for being one of the few establishments open past 3am in London.
