The 16th Street Baptist Church was bombed on Sunday, September 15, 1963. The explosion killed four girls and marked a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement.
On March 7, 1965 nearly 600 civil rights protesters clashed with State Troopers for their right to vote. Less than five months later, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
