The highlight of the piazza is Loggia dei Lanzi: used in 1382 to hold public ceremonies. Today, it's like an open air art museum with many interesting statues.
It is the first basilica (Dominican church). The church, the adjoining cloister, and chapterhouse contain a store of art treasures and funerary monuments. Frescoes by masters of Gothic & Renaissance.
