The abbey was founded in 1850 by 17 monks from Westvleteren's Sint-Sixtus abbey. It's best known for its Trappist beers (~120000 hl / year) and cheeses, sold to support the monastery and good causes.

Obeying St. Benedict's rule, the Trappist monks live a life of prayer, reading and labour. It's said they only talk when necessary. That, however, doesn't prevent them from brewing 3 amazing beers.

Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne is a blend of 1-, 2- and 3-year-old lambics with wort acquired from Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon, fermented and matured in oak barrels at the Tilquin blendery.
Cantillon has 7 beers listed in Ratebeer's Best of Sour Beers Top 15, Lou Pepe Pure Kriek was voted one of the World's Best Beers and Cuvée Florian one of the World's Top New Beer Releases [2014]
Come and buy a Taras Boulba, Zinnebir, Jambe de Bois, Stouterik or Brusseleir or try one of the seasonals or Wadesda experiments. If you're in front of the building, go right to find the entrance.
