A short walk north of Kyoto Station. It is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. Of more interest though is the more ornate Nishi-Honganji opposite. Walk the narrow streets between them.
Est. in the 12th century, houses 1001 carved wooden statutes of Kannon - the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy in the main hall. It is a short bus ride east from Kyoto Station (buses #100, #206 & #208)
250 maples spread around the whole area located in west of Kitano Tenman-gu Shrine. It is said that there are trees of 350-400 years among them. The light-up after the sunset should not be missed.
