I came here often on school field trips and now bring my son.. It's still an amazing experience. Check out listings for laser light shows as well as their July 4th shows (call ahead, hours are wonky)

Winter hours is 12-5. Planetarium show: one world, one sky is perfect for kids 1-5 yrs old! This place is very spacious so a lot to walk around and explore for kids. Great water view as well.

Make sure you start at the planetarium. That's where you need to buy tickets for the mansion tour. The people at the gatehouse forget to mention this fun fact and it's a long walk back if you have to.

Great place to take kids for a few hours. They loved running around on the grounds and were interested in the exhibits.

The Vanderbilt Planetarium opened in 1971 & is the largest on Long Island with its 60 foot dome. The observatory is open on Friday nights, & the local Astronomical Society holds monthly viewings too. Read more

It's even more beautiful at night than it is during the day. And they have a ton of great events.

Nice Place to spend a couple of hours. They should have some signs on the road tho. A little confusing in getting there. It is on a 2 lane road. A large white wall is what you should look for.
