A short walk north of Kyoto Station. It is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. Of more interest though is the more ornate Nishi-Honganji opposite. Walk the narrow streets between them.

This was a fun find whilst exploring about. Not a major touristy temple so come here to evade the heaviest of crowds while still getting beautiful temple views.

I've read this is Largest wooden structure in the world. Very impressive. Free entry. Close walk to Kyoto station. Take off your shoes when entering.

京都駅から一番近い寺院。真宗大谷派の本山で、正式名称では真宗本廟といい、通称は東本願寺・お東・お東さん。本願寺12世宗主となった教如が、豊臣秀吉により直ちに弟の准如に宗主を譲らされ、慶長7年 (1602年) 徳川家康から寺地を寄進されて創建。寺宝には、親鸞筆の「教行信証」、絹本著色親鸞聖人像 (前者国宝、後者重文) など多数。
