This Inca ruin forms the base of the colonial church of Santo Domingo. Today all that remains of Koricancha (once the Inca Empire’s richest temple) is the stonework.
Small Plaza with popular cafes, restaurants and tourist shops – giving it the name “Barrio de los Artesanos”. The plaza is also home to Cusco’s oldest parish church.
Started in 1559 and taking almost 100 years to build, the Cathedral is Cusco’s main church and one of the cities greatest repositories of colonial art.
This is considered to be Cusco’s third most important colonial church. The order of La Merced was founded in Barcelona in 1218 by San Pedro Nolasco. Paintings based on his life hang in the cloister.
This church's foundations contain stones from the palace of Huayana Capac, the last Inca to rule an undivided, unconquered Empire.
This church and monastery dating from the 16th and 17th Century, is more austere than many of Cusco’s other churches, but does have a large collection of paintings and a well carved cedar wood choir.
The church donated the mansion to house a religious art collection. Many of the paintings are notable for the accuracy of their period detail.
In the Casa Garcilaso de la Vega. There is a small chronologically arranged but poorly labelled archaeological collection.
One of the best ruins in Cusco. Approx 40 min walk from the Plaza del Armas. Better to visit in a group rather than independently: security! You need a BOLETO TURISTICO for this ruin.
1 hour by local bus (a great experience, but a hairy ride!). Very colourful. There are also some great ruins here.
This 16th century church is part of a strict convent. You can usually get in for mass around 6 or 7 am. It is worth making the effort as it is one of Peru's most bizarre churches.
