mateo: So if you are by Jackson Square - you can't miss Cafe Du Monde which is the coffee shop along the river. Cafe Au Lait is great.
mateo: You can take the street car here. A straight shot if you are staying in the quarter/CBD but you will have to transfer if you are staying in the garden district
mateo: So if you are in Jackson square - you can walk across the blvd and walk along the mississippi. You can carry any alcohol that isn't in a glass container. There is a tiny pier that ends in a platform right next to the Creole Queen Riverboat. As recently as lat year the gate was not locked - you can go sit above the river and watch the traffic.
mateo: This is my favorite poboy shop. You can only get Oysters certain days of the week (m,w, f? not sure exactly)
mateo: I used to bartend here in college. Next to the Maple Leaf, which is a hole in the wall but plays live brass and other local music. If you go eat here get a drink next door afterwards.
Rory: You need to book a tour to get in but it's very cool. Worth it for Nick Cage's tomb alone (no, he's not dead yet)
Rory: Cool place where you can blow your own glass structure
Rory: In case you have not had enough fried chicken by now, this place was great and where presidents come to dine when in NO. Great vibe and artwork on wall is super cool. I think only open on Friday and Saturday night? Gumbo was the best we had down there
Rory: Great museum by Jackson square. The Katrina exhibit - also solemn but uplifting. They also have a mardi gras exhibit upstairs that show history and all the costumes.
mateo: Another great place in the French Quarter - good for a walk-in lunch. There is a corner booth you can autograph. They have poboys, but also light lunch like a cheese plate with avocado.
mateo: If you actually come out here for a swamp tour - the whole area where you get a canoe is amazing. It impresses upon you what a unique place south louisiana really is.
mateo: Another great place to sit and watch boats. There are bunches of parks for baseball and soccer nearby. Crawfish season as well - generally people are passing out seafood as they picnic.
